Setlist.

Its usually surprisingly obscure. They choose what seems to me to be pretty random songs, or whatever they're playing well at the time. Oddly they dont open with songs from their new album... like just before Character came out they were opening with Sun fired blanks -which is 2 albums old (3 now infact). Now they appear to be opening with Treason Wall, which I can't really complain about. Although it is such a random choice. With the more old school vibes on the new record they've managed to bring back some old classics. Apparently they played Scythe Rage roses recently along with Of Chaos and Eternal night. But no 2 sets posted on this site have been the same. They really are mixing it up at the moment, and I have to say I'm glad of it. The Devote fans won't get bored if they see them twice. Contrast this with Nightwish for instance, Who have done a world tour over the span of one and a half years. They've come to the UK twice in this tour and they only change 2 songs in their set list. They even played the same venue twice in a row and didn't change one song. Pretty shit if you ask me.

So yeah, all you need to know about the set is that its a good mix, and it's probably gonna be filled with surprises. They havn't been playing Haven live at all. This is very upsetting. If I wrote a song like Haven I'd play it forever at every gig... twice... then at the after party I'd put it on repeat on the hi fi system and nobody would complain cos its so good. Everyone would thank me for forcing my song onto them, as I'm pretty sure hearing Haven 5 or 6 times in a day will cause a person to reach bliss.

Unlike King Chaos, my experience has been different... I've seen them four times in the US, and for the most part the setlist was the same. All four shows I saw were in support of Damage Done; two with In Flames and two with Nile. As I understand it, because it was the only the first and second times they had ever toured in the US, they tried to reach a balance between playing the "must haves" (i.e. Punish My Heaven) for their older fans, and promoting their new album to people who had never heard of DT before. (Unfortunately, as much as I love my country, our collective taste in music sucks)

Anyway, the setlist was (in no particular order except that Final Resistance was always the closer):

The Wonders at Your Feet (opener for two shows)
The Treason Wall
The Sun Fired Blanks (opener for the other two shows)
Haven OR Indifferent Suns (Haven three times/Indifferent Suns once)
Monochromatic Stains
Punish My Heaven
Damage Done
Zodijackyl Light (at two of the shows)
White Noise/Black Silence (at one show)
Final Resistance

So, they seemed to try to represent each of their albums (with the exception of Skydancer and OCaEN) in the short time that they had on stage.

Hopefully this helps....can't wait until April....

r2: If i understood the KC´s post with basic info I already had, I think the keyword was: "at the moment". And yes, they have had same songs in their setlist for ages. (like wasn´t Tuska 2004 [only gig that I´ve been to] copy-paste of their live-DVD [which i have´nt seen]?)

At Tuska they played two songs that don't appear on Live Damage: Single Part of Two (which I liked a lot live) and One Thought (which I liked even more, even though it was the first time I heard it); several slower songs were cut from the set at Tuska, as the show was considerably shorter (about an hour long) than the Live Damage one.

As for Haven, they played it a lot last year, so I guess it is a good time for a short "break" for that song. It is one of my favorites, both live and on album, but having heard it twice live already I'd rather have them play some other song on this tour.

About the two "new" old songs in their set, I'm eagerly awaiting to hear both of them. I never liked Scythe, Rage and Roses as much as some other people, but it is still a solid thrash-classic and seems to fit well with the songs from Character. Of Chaos and Eternal Night, on the other hand, is one of the most overvalued DT-songs IMHO; but I have a hunch I might actually like it a lot in a live-situation - as was the case with Zodijackyl Light (among my least favorite DT-songs on album, but truly a great song live).

Anyways, I'm truly looking forward to seeing and hearing this great live-band again. Two more weeks! :hotjump:

any of chaos and eternal night? it was mentioned somewhere else, but maybe it was just a once-only happening then.

They played it in Ljubljana, Slovenia. I can't really remember if they played it in Zagreb, Croatia. Damn.. I'm getting rather senile :err:

The setlist in Oberhausen was the following:

The Treason Wall
Lost To Apathy
One Thought
White Noise/ Black Silence
The New Build
The Wonders At Your Feet
Scythe, Rage And Roses
Punish My Heaven
The Endless Feed
Final Resistance

And the day after in Langen, One Thought was replaced by Through Smudged Lenses and The Endless Feed by My Negotiation.

There, I talked to Martin B. and he told me that OCaEN didn't work in a set of 45 Minutes because it was too long. So it wasn't played any more on this tour, but maybe in the US if DT can play longer.

Soon, there will be storys of these 2 gigs on my page, as well as photos from Langen.
