There is a process for legally immigrating to this country that has worked for millions of people for many years. Sorry that Mexico sucks, but choosing which country to live in is not a basic human right.
I would consider a one-time amnesty for people who have established lives and would like to be citizens. This at least gets people documented and paying into the system, but it does nothing to discourage border jumpers.

I am with Krig, Val, GR, J and anyone else who respects the laws of America.
Immigrants who want to become Americans should do it legally, and then should become Americans. Learn the language, pay taxes, obey the law. I am not saying they should abandon their culture, but if they want to come here, then that means they should want to be Americans.

They would not be leaching off the country if they would be allowed to enter more freely. How does this concept not enter your mind? You think it is a benefit to not pay your taxes and not be able to move forward in your life?
Yeah, but you are failing to note that these people would love to come into the country legally but the politics hold them back, they are forced to enter the country by crossing the border illegally.

I don't agree with Krig about ALL non-citizens being deported. Some are here for work or school and their placement is only temporary. If they decide to stay for more than 5 years, they should at least attempt to become citizens at that point.

Language is a key issue. It's the reason many have to enter illegally, because they cannot pass citizenship without a competent grasp on English. And language is a major part of cultural identity, so they are naturally reluctant to abandon it.

Why don't they join the country legally and then learn english and pass citizen's test? My friend isn't an American Citizen and he had 5 years before he either had to leave the country or pass the test, why don't others do this?

Also, the fact that Hispanic immigrants are discriminated against is a major intimidation that keeps them from wanting to become citizens. They'd rather remain below the radar than have to put up with trying to fit into a prejudiced society.

Okay let me get into this discussion. I read a statement above me that said that the mexicans are employed at jobs that no one wants to do. Thats kind of ironic because from 2004 to 2006 i tried to find work here in indiana but no one hell even McDonalds did not want to hire me they would give those jobs to the mexicans or some other minority person. Plus when i worked in the kitchen with them they told me that they wanted to go back when their visas were up. It's kind of the reason why i went back into the military cause most of the mexicans take all the restaurant and various other jobs here in Indy. So I say deport em if they choose not to do the right thing.

They are not forced to do anything. They choose to break the law.
What politics is holding them back? If our immigration process is messed up, then that is what needs to be fixed. But it seems to me that there are people here legally. The answer is not to open the borders.

A lot of you guys aren't even being directly affected in many bad ways but are acting like you are. What most of these people hate them for is that they speak a different language and have a different culture. Its not like a world that speaks another language is engulfing everything you know and ruining your life. And for fucks sake most of these people can't have fucking schooling so they can't learn English before they get here. Its not like once they set foot here they could magically learn English and just choose not to to piss off all Americans.
More like most of them are older and it is much harder for them to learn languages. Fuck this "they didn't learn the language before sneaking in here" bullshit. Thats like someone getting pissed off for me not knowing what happens in a book that I couldn't get a hold of.
