Ok peeps, here's the way it's going to work out:

1 - Everyone gets to do 2 recommendations. One MUST be metal (or metal-based). The other can be non-metal. If you don't have a non-metal reco, then you're perfectly allowed to do 2 metal recommendations. If anything, that's a preference. :loco:

2 - Since 3 people will be recommending 2 reviews each week, that's 6 sticky threads on top of the forum. It's too much and I don't much like sticky threads. SO WE'RE GOING TO USE THE REVIEW SUB-FORUM. :hypno:

3 - Since our recommendation 'template' requests that you provide a description of the music, and why you think it's worth recommending, it's practically a review anyway. So please don't cut and paste someone else's opinion of the album, make the effort and post your own thoughts.

4 - Can I ask that we make some effort to respond to people's recommendations? :tickled: Last time, people would either (a) ignore the reco, or (b) download the reco samples and listen to them 3 months later and never bother with an update. I'm not saying this is mandatory, but if we're all in it together, I think it would be more interesting to hear everyone's thoughts! :goggly:

Right now, only 15 people have responded to the poll (10 with a yes). Let's wait to see if more are interested, and then we can make a roster. And yes, Doomcifer gets to go in the first round. :)

Sure, but nobody likes shitty obscure speed/thrash so I suppose I'll have to find something else.

:kickass:

Excellent guidelines too. I already have one metal reco in line, just gotta think of another. The only tough part is figuring if it should be metal or non metal. hmm

Throw me in the first round, I want to tear shit up with Doomcifer. With my luck i'd be paired with Hamock and Nichrome.

:flame:

Why don't we add some flare to this she-bang? At the end of each week a poll is created to rate the six recos as a collective package on a scale from one to ten, as based on kickassery. The winning team at the end of the event is awarded positive rep from all participating parties. Dumb idea? Good Idea? Whatcha niggas think?!? I'd say it would motivate people to reco the creme de la creme of their music collection, as opposed to hilbilly Hank Williams garbage. I'm sorry Tully, I didn't mean to single you out or anything. <3 XOXOXOX

Actually, just thought of another guideline I'd like to suggest - can the uploaded MP3s be properly tagged with at least Artist Name, Album Name, Track Title and Track Number please? I've got over 7,000 tracks in my music library, and it's a complete bastard to find untagged tracks. Plus, I've regrettably just had to delete three of the Scanner tracks Tully just uploaded because the files were apparently corrupt and couldn't be tagged properly (even though they played just fine)...

I think you're on to something here. At minimum, we're offering some incentive for people to recommend something that people will like, listen to, and most importantly, buy. (Otherwise I fear we're just going to have people recommend something obscure for the sake of it being unique or unknown).

The only drawback with rating the six recos is that two people could offer some cool reco's, but the tag along fifth wheel of a subhuman could recommend some tripe and bring the whole group down. So how about at the end of each round, we just do a poll to see which reco was the best?

Agreed.

Also, just a side point, but I don't think we have enough people to do three people per week. We might need to keep it to two people in each round.

One more point:

Even if you think it's obvious, go with the reco anyway. Don't assume everyone's heard it already. Go with something that you truly believe other people will/should like. Obviously there's no point recommending Maiden or Emperor but at the same time it doesn't have to be the one Moldovian pagan jazz metal band with one 7" split in their discography with some band only Moose listens to.

So I was in the shower washing my balls and I came up with a great Idea.
Stay with me...

Taking from the framework of March Madness, the weekly winner who has the best reco advances to a second Round of recommendations at the conclusion of round 1. So say, if there are 54 posters in Round 1, with 1 out of 3 advancing every week, at the conclusion there will be 18 moving on to Stage 2. The top 6 recommenders* from Stage two will then move on to stage 3. This round will eventually see 2 people advancing. The final round is a face off to the death.

Winner receives a $50 gift certificate to The End Records (sponsered by RIA enterprises)

Who is game!??! This will ensure that everyone brings out the big guns?!?! I shall wait for a consensus, a.k.a approval from our "Dark Lord" Jaykeeley.
