Do you know any guitarists from the Punk genre that can shred? I know that the guitarist from the Vandals can shred. I saw it in his live video. Also, is metal stemmed from punk or vice versa?

Chris from Propagandhi can sure as hell shred. He even plays a pretty sick solo in the last song on the latest album. And his riffs are often fast and somewhat technical with lots of palm muting. Overall, Propagandhi are a thrashy sounding punk band; they're also one of my favorite bands.

I agree with chris from propagnadhi, i saw him live too and he's really good. I couldn't sing and play guitar like taht at the same time :).

Metal and punk emerged from the same scene, the rock scene, in the late 60s and early 70s respectively. Metal was more firmly rooted in blues and punk was more of a complete removal from arena rock and progressive rock. Stripped down, back to the basics rock with attitude. Neither created either, but they were both spawned from rock.

What the fuck?! Name me an "early 70's" punk band then idiot.

Here's one: Velvet Underground

And, you're the only idiot I see. Aether is correct, hit the facts on the button.

:-/

I don't know what you are talking about, TTMB. But, I would recommend shutting up, before you make a bigger ass of yourself.

I can stand sum41's new stuff if its played, but they all have talent. they where the only band at that metallica icon to pull off a decent solo.

 Punk in the early 70's!
Another "expert" who knows nothing!

The Stooges, New York Dolls, Velvet Underground, MC5, and even T. Rex were all punk before punk even started.

Punk and metal did help form eachother, though. If it weren't for the hardcore of the early 80s bands like Anthrax, Metallica, Megadeth, Exodus, etc. wouldn't exist or sound dramaticly different.

If it weren't for tose thrash bands, crossover acts like DRI would have endede up a lot different.

Yeah, basically. Of course nowadays punk and metal bands kind of influence each other at times.
