SHROUD DROPPED FROM Leave's Eyes show next month

Unfortunately, you need some degree of money hunger to not go broke in the first month. Plus if you're nice... someone is going to screw you out of that soon enough.

It's definitely possible to keep a balance between a money hungry, ambitious, business mind set, but still keep a sense of honest ethics (without letting other people push you around).
Personally, I would rather lose a little money on a business deal, than completely screw someone over in a dishonest fashion.

I would never let anyone get away with stealing ideas from me though.

On the one hand, that's definitely true. But if you build a good reputation for yourself, as a professional, but honest promoter, more people will be willing to work with you.
For instance, I'm sure you would probably never want anything to do with this guy again, and I'm sure he's screwed over quite a few other bands.

You guys need to seriously STOP playing shows where you're forced to sell tickets. Once you fall into that trap, the clubs know they have you by the balls, and will always make you do that. It burns me when I see good bands like SoB having to sell tickets to perform. FUCK THAT. You should be PAID and given hospitality, not forced to buy tickets.

When you go to a show, you're supposed to discover something. Maybe it's a local band who you follow around for a couple years. Perhaps you learn that it really was the production on that demo and those guys are as good as everyone told you. Pay to play robs us fans of those opportunities. It's about who has the money to get on the bill.
Take the Leaves Eyes show. I don't know Eternal Embrace. However, I am familiar with SoB. The literature on LE suggests Dan&Co. would appeal to a decent cross-section of the fanbase. They've played the venue before and apparently done so quite well. In fact, they headlined the local acts for the Katatonia show so the venue knew that SoB was pretty great. So the band can't play and enrich the concert going experience of fans because its members need to eat sometime in the near future? Yeah. That really shows how much Mark's cares about the fans.

I agree %100 Paul. It's one of those situations where either you suck it up and sell tickets (which I think we are a bit beyond) or you don't play on the bigger bills without just doing local shows with local bands, bringing in the whole other problem where, in NE anyways, there are so many bands playing any given night, the compitition draws all the peeps away from the show you work so hard to book.

As for tickets, We wanted to play the Swallow The Sun/Katatonia show recently, and decided, never again, and I think You Paul said it best!

Fuck selling tickets!

Well said too man. I think it sucks for the fans and the bands all around. It only helps the promoter (but wait, we are the promoter? lol) fuck all that!
