They both recorded "mellow" first solo albums

Devs 'Ocean Machine'

Dans 'The Breathing Shadow' album

both albums ended with a single scream...weird

both men sing really well

both growl/scream really well

both produce bands aswell as their own music.

Both love music with a bit of cheese.

...man im bored...

Dan's best moments are possibly above all other moments, but 100 times? Be fair :zombie:

Devin Townsend, for me anyway, has done some truly great things as well. I'd never compare the two personally, I like them both and they both do very different things for me.

I think Townsend has done a few more top-notch records than Dan, but Dans best work is above anything else, so.. and they are not really that similar, like Ockham wrote: comparing apples and pears again...

My opinion is the exact opposite. Devin's records are the best thing I've ever heard in terms of quality, Dan's are second *only* to Devin, but Dan has so much more quantity, probably 3 times as much stuff to keep your ears and mind busy (depending what you're allowed to count). And Devin has lots of quantity as well. They are easily my two favorites.

I would agree with those that said comparing their work isn't apropriate. They're very different and so the thread title is incorrect, IMAO. I'd respond to the title by saying their only "similarity" is that they both are total ass kickers. :kickass:

Interesting thing though, I discovered Devin on THIS BOARD from Lumen (llamura then) about 5 years ago, so maybe there is something to it....weird.

yeah, thinking of it I have to agree with you. but I still think the quall of dev's stuff is very even, all his solo albums and basicly all strapping albums kick ass.

Actually the thread title isn't "incorrect" if you take Fubar's first post into consideration, which I guess one should. Actually completely correct in terms of what he mentioned. Whoops. You guys know what I mean, though. ;)

Differences:

Dan is 100x better in every way!
You're insane. First off, you can't really compare them because musically they're on two different planets. However, their skill and ability to craft amazing music is very much on the same level.

I said years ago I'd love to see Devin collaborate with Dan and Arjen Anthony Lucassen. Devin a Lucassen got together already, and though Devin only added his voice to three songs on The Human Equation, he was clearly on a different level. His vocals were amazing, especially on "Loser." So, now Dan and Devin need to get together. That would be one amazing album!

But anyway, both Dan and Devin are equal masters at what they do, but not comparable.

Devin Townsend's music is godly, as is Dan's. I would never compare the two, but I consider Terria among the greatest albums ever released, by any genre. Also, Devin's performance on the last Ayreon was by far my favourite, even better than Mikael Akerfeldt's. No one can scream like that.

It would be amazing to see Dan and Devin doing something together. To me, Dan, Devin and Daniel Gildenlow (the 3 D's) are the best singers in prog...

Devins singin'g with Vai's guitar made one of the best albums of all time. But I love Steve Vai. Devin and Dan artists are incomparable. They both have multiple projects that involve various genres. Which makes them true artists that are not all about one single thing. Just as listeners are often diverse, they are diverse. I'm glad that they are both doing what they are doing. Means more awesome music for me to listen to.

Another similarity:

I sponsored both Dan's and Devin's appearances at ProgPower USA, and both got signed for US deals shortly thereafter. :p

Yet another:

Both have been utilized by Arjen Lucassen for different projects.

Just because Devin and Dan are the two most important/greatest human beings in the history of mankind (besides Snoop Dogg, of course) doesn't mean they could work together and make something of increased awesomeness. It's not like you get to combine their energies Dragon Ball Z fusion-style and get a higher exponent of their powers. Much better off apart doing their own thing.

devin townsend is a way better vocalist, ocean machine i one of the best albums ever made, devins scullet is awesome, devin is up there with åkerfelt, blakkheim, wilson and gildenlöw

some of the screams he squeezes out with bloodbath are insane... like the one in cancer of the soul, you just wait for it to stop soon but it just gets higher and higher...and then you wet your pants.
