Simone/Epica

That's exactly what I was thinking. My mother-in-law was an infection control specialist at the hospital where I also worked for seven years. Hospital-acquired infections are way more common then people realize.

Some sites with info:
Mayo Clinic on MRSA
CDC on the cost of HAI
Consumers Union site for stopping HAI
(some pretty sad/scary stories there.)

While she certainly might have contracted MRSA somewhere else, I'd sure like to know where she was treated here and research their infection record. Just out of curiosity.
Somewhere in the St. Paul, MN area I believe. I called SwordLord on the afternoon of his Epica/Visions of Atlantis/Firewind show last year and I seem to remember him telling me something about Simone having to be taken to the hospital for something that happened to her leg on the previous day or at the previous show. I didn't get all the details since he was prepping for the show that night - which I'm pretty sure Epica still played - so best to PM or check with Nathan on that. I'd be curious to know what you find out though.

Today they sadly cancelled their scheduled gigs for the upcoming weeks, this is the info they posted about this today on their website:

As much as we hoped to do the upcoming shows, after the shows last weekend Simone’s condition just got worse and worse and therefore we have to cancel the shows for the rest of the month. Our sincere apologies for this last minute cancellation, but as you can understand we don’t want to risk anything concerning Simone’s health. We will also keep you up to date about rescheduling these gigs as soon as we have more info on this.

Hopefully she will recover soon.

Dude, you trying to ruin my year already?

Seems strange to have too early concerts this year canceled for medical reasons. I really hope this doesn't become a trend, and hope everyone heals up.

That antibiotic resistant stuff is nasty, and it's only going to get worse. I had a close call with it when I had some ankle surgery. I got this one site on my foot that started eating away the bone and everything. They had to go back in, cut out that section of bone, and fill it with these calcium balls impregnated with some additional antibiotic to get rid of it. Not fun.

The cancelled gigs don't include the upcoming NA tour, I hope.

Epica (and Simone) are back in business since May and i was happy i got to see them last weekend at a annual motor cross festival here in Holland. For the first time they had a metal stage at this festival and i was lucky to be there this weekend and was able to see both Epica and Evergrey !!!

The stage both band played was an open air stage, so enough sunlight instead of (poor) venue lights :heh:.

It will take one or two weeks before the pics are processed and online, but i know there are a few out there who are more than happy to see some pics of Simone (especially Todd :))

The rest will up asap:

Oh man, so glad to see that Simone is back in action. Amanda is a great singer, but she's not the singer of Epica, and it's good to have the real member of the band back.

Buuuut, Simone is still not 100% yet... so they are still taking it easy and doing "less" shows as possible.

Right on! This is great news indeed! I hope Epica returns to the USA in 2009 WITH Simone on vocals this time! Amanda did very well this year here in America, though. It's always great to see and hear an American make good abroad and over here as well!
