I've never heard an album from them. Are they worth looking into, if I really like Cruachan and other folk metal bands? Best albums?

I love Skyclad. I consider them one of the top 10 metal bands of the 90s. I like every single album they released and my favourites are "The Wayward Sons of Mother Earth", "Prince Of The Poverty Line" and "Irrational Anthems". The great change occured in "Irrational.." when the folk - metal thing was 50-50. Amazing music, rich inspiration in riffs and melodies, great musicianship, and the strong vocals/lyrics of Martin (greatest use of english language in metal imo). Power, emotion, intensity, magical folklore aura - the guys had it all. Even their last album is very very good. The albums Erik mentioned are good for beginning.

Martin's lyrics are excellent, his mastery of the English language and seething satire was easily the best thing about this band even though their combination of folk and metal has resulted in a sound largely unique to them and is usually highly enjoyable.

I know all lyrics from that album rule but the only part I remember is Bell book and candle, candle book and bell, forwards and backwards to guide you to hell plus tiny parts here and there

Ahh, good ol' true folk metal. Both Skyclad and Slough Feg are great bands.

I don't own the entire Skyclad discography, but I love Vintage Whine. I need to get some more eventually.

You know, I was just listening to Vintage Whine again whilst reading along with the lyrics...and the weirdest thing happened....I could feel that 'fan boy' adrenaline start rushing through my veins....you know, it happens when you've hit upon something quite magical, whether old or new.

First of all, you can't deny the overt Jethro Tull influence, where the flute has been replaced by a fiddle by that lovely red headed chick, George Biddle. (George = Georgina). Also, the riffs are just great folky/celtic melodies to support the fantastic vocal lines (and lyrics).

Folkemon isn't quite as exciting unfortunately, but still pretty decent.

Right, a shopping I will go.......I'll see you in the latest purchases thread!

Still haven't checked them out, but I'm gonna once I get a credit at a certain mailorder. Which is better:
