Skyclad

I think they got kind of way too cheesy after the second album or so

I have The silent whales of lunar sea and it's frankly a bit embarrassing

is the non-Walkyier album, A Semblance of Normalcy, any good?

Music aside, this album has one of the absolute worst mastering jobs I've ever heard

It's up there with Beast of bourbon and Death magnetic, just absolutely ruined by limiting and clipping. Literally unlistenable imo

Speaking of bad mastering, I'm listening to Oath Bound right now, and my god, it's got some horrible mastering. In fact, Stronghold and Let Mortal Heroes have major problems with that as well. Thank god Old Mornings Dawn sounds fine.

mastering hasn't bothered me much/at all on the summoning albums tbh

but i'm sure now that you mentioned it i'll start noticing, thanks a lot

(stronghold is dr6? why?)

Stronghold is a terrible offender. Shit has NO dynamic range. Where Hope and Daylight Die is where I notice it the most. Especially on headphones.

This is just another reason why my Summoning rankings look like this:

1. Dol Guldur
2. Nightshade Forests
3. Old Mornings Dawn

BTW, all the Summonings sound ten times better on vinyl I hear.

well

now that i'm listening critically, yes, cymbals and other transient stuff sound terrible in "where hope and daylight die"

but this is probably one of the few albums where it doesn't really bother me. not that it wouldn't have been better without all the WAVES L2 ULTRAMAXIMIZER™ but, you know, what can ya do

What can we do? We can acquire a copy of the vinyl. That will certainly help.

Edit: Nevermind. The prices I'm seeing on ebay for a Stronghold vinyl are absurd.

yeah

that

also i want to listen to summoning far more often than i want to jump through the hoops of putting on a vinyl record

Nevermind. Just checked out "Burnt Offering." Shit rules. Will check out more, chronologically.

jonahs ark, vintage whine, irrational anthems, price of the poverty line

their best imo. folkemon is pretty good too
