Slate Digital FG-X - Group Buy

Have you guys never done a group buy before? Any time anyone participates in a group buy you have to be willing to pay the highest price, because theoretically every single person could drop out except you, that's how group buys work, that's the chance you take.

There's nothing surprising or unusual about this, this is how it works and there's no other way it can work... The other option is to just wait until the very last minute that the group buy is open so that you are confident enough people bought it before you that you will get the cheapest price, but there's no guarantees there either...

Group buys are a gamble in that sense, that's why they are a good deal. If it was just going to be $150 end of story, Slate would just post a coupon code or something, but there is zero incentive for him to do that because then he's just giving everyone an arbitrary discount without any guarantee that there will be a high enough volume of sales to warrant the price drop.

Geez people...If your paypal account is attached to your bank account, you shouldn't have to worry...

I guess I figured most of us on here would be verified, seeing how so much gear is bought/handled/paid and DL'd these days.

you do realize that when PayPal takes the money from your account it actually comes out and goes into PayPal right?

So ...

When Slate takes $250, and then only charges you $150, the other $100 stays in your PayPal account. It does not get returned to your Bank Account unless you do a Bank Transfer which takes 7 days.

So like I said, it being the first of the month and all and having bills to pay I need that $100 in my actual Bank Account to cover bills that need to be paid.

Oh and NW this is NOT the only way to do this. Slate could charge the $150, wait for EVERYONE to buy, then release the plug-in. If it doesn't reach the numbers needed he just charges the people the difference before releasing the plugin. It works the same either way.

I've never had a paypal transaction take more than 2 days, but that's moot.

If you have a Credit card, none of this matters anyway, as it would all be seemless. I still stand by that too many people are making the "captured at 250" comment way too big a deal. It truly happens all the time on so many transactions.

Heck, I looked at my bank account online just about an hour ago, and it's showing a debit authfor 100 bucks for the gas I got this morning (20 bucks worth). It shows it as an authorization, then underneath that it shows the actual amount charged.

Credit card = charging things on credit

debit card = money is directly taken out of your checking or savings account (usually checking though).

I know credit cards to be credit cards and debit cards to be.....well, debit cards.
Makes life a bit more simple that way

Since the rule was 'no dropouts'......How many dropouts are there gonna be???
Didnt Brett say "dont add yourself unless you have the money and are not gonna drop out"....or something like that??
Im sure all the other guys that wanted in on the deal (the regulars) would be more than glad to take open spots. Wish I could, but I am poor.
I just hope I have the cash to get in on the next group buy...provided there will be more...if its not ruined by drop outs.

Edit: Why would people drop out if they know it risks their acct being banned??...as it stated on day one.

20 people: $229
30 people: $199
45 people: $169
60 people: $149

the initial hold will be for $249. Assuming no one wimps out, the card will be charged the final price, which is $149 if at least 60 people are in.

I can't do anything on the ilok.
