Slayer, Priest, Slipknot Set For Ozzfest

Slayer, Judas Priest (reunited with vocalist Rob Halford) and Slipknot will join Ozzy Osbourne as the mainstage acts on this year's Ozzfest, set to begin in early July, Billboard.com has learned. Details of the tour will be announced next week in Los Angeles.

For Osbourne, the shows will mark his return to the live stage after suffering severe injuries in an ATV crash late last year. Since its inaugural run in 1996, Ozzfest has grossed $146.5 million from 236 shows that have drawn 3.8 million headbangers, primarily to outdoor amphitheaters.

A testament to Ozzfest's stature among the metal faithful is the tour's performance in 2003, perhaps the most competitive road environment ever for the genre, with Metallica's Summer Sanitarium stadium tour, the return of Lollapalooza, a much-hyped Kiss/Aerosmith double-bill and dozens of smaller tours on the road vying for the money and time of rock fans.

Ozzfest more than held its own, grossing $23.5 million and drawing 481,857 people. This summer is expected to be equally saturated with rock tours, including another Lollapalooza run and an Aerosmith/Cheap Trick double-bill.

Damn tweekers! Lots of clinched teeth there I bet! hehe! Ya, I try to avoid those big festival type shows, I get a little wigged out in big crowds. A bit too claustrophobic for me. I likes my own space!

Isn't the main product of that region of the 909 area code meth labs?
I saw the funkiest mullet at a KCAL thing with Creeping Death... way back when Brian was in the band (remember him???)... anyway... there was this lady, wearing a lepard print tube dress, white stockings, with socks and white tennis shoes... she had a blonde mullet going all the way down to her butt..
I'm sure that in the distant future, top scientists will discover the missing link down there. o_O

If they actually play someplace in LA or Orange County I'll go [just in time to see the last 3 bands], but I'm not driving to Devore, it's usual nearest location. Maybe I'd even go to San Diego, but certainly not Devore.

I'm sure the Irvine Company and Verizon Wireless remembers what happened the last time that Ozzy played there back in 1992.
If you're talking about what were supposed to be his final 2 shows before his alleged retirement, that was at The Pacific Amphitheatre, not Irvine. I was there both nights.

It would be VERY cool if The Iron Maidens were on this list o_O

Good ol Ozzy an retirement...

Still remember the "No More Tours" show. While it was nice to be comp'd by the bands managment, it came with a ping or two of sorrow. This is it, no more shows. The last Ozzy tour... and it was a damn good show, too!

Fool that I was in my youth, as he's had, what 6-7 "Ozzy" tours since, 2 "Black Sabbath" Tours, and untold Ozfests..

Maybe someday he'll stop...

I hope the Maidens don't have their "Geriatric" tour in 60 years... hee
