sm57 clone test mix

Doesn't sound bad, lacks a little in the definition though, I think. Maybe if you'd cut a little more of the low end the rest comes out better

not to sound like an asshole... what do you expect from a laney? I've heard that amp in real life a couple of times, it sounds like that. no matter what mic you put there. I think the sound was shit to begin with.

to much dist with no real crunch = Laney

sorry if this sounded like a bash of your equipment but I've NEVER really heard a good sound out of a Laney...

I have one. It sounds like shit on guitar amps compared to a real 57. No balls, nasty nasality, weak signal level... However, I like it on snare drums.

dude it was recorder with an engl fireball with the volume on 1 (0-10). No laney was used in that clip.

If you never heard a laney sounding good that's your problem not mine, but why all the hate? what made you think this was a laney to begin with?
IMO It does sound great and is one of the best amps out there, that's why I still have it.

thanks, that was the kind of info I was hoping to get. I will eventually compare both mics on the same take and post the results.

take care

yeah i agree it sounds a little nasal anyway both Laney VH100R+Engl Fireball
are great i have a gh50l it fuckin rocks......

Well I figured that it was the laney cause it said on your list that you have a Laney VH100R, and the clip was called VH100R or something similar....

ps. if that really was an engl fireball, :Puke: . sounded like a laney haha.

pps. laney is not reliable either, we managed to break 2 laney tube heads during one rehearsal session where we're only checking that the stuff works. got sound for 3 minutes and then poof...

No prob man.

VH100R is my nickname.

I have my laney almost for 6 years now. the amp was sent to me by boat from the UK and arrived in a box pretty fucked up.
The amp was fine and today still has the same power tubes. Gigged with it many times, small tours and on a back of a van. never failed me (the amp).

If you managed to broke 2 amps in the same rehearsal session, I'm sorry but I doubt the way you connected the gear to those tube amps as that seems like a major coincidence to happen.

By the way there are many laneys from the 90s and 80s here in Portugal still going strong. I think that says something about their reliabiity.

thanks for your input anyways

take care

Have you tried it without the transformer? I'm wondering how well the capsule itself works, and taking the transformer out seems to really open up the sound of my 57.

No man... haven't done that yet.

I need to test the mic tracking loud first because this was done in my bedroom.

only then I'll decide if I like the mic or not.

EDIT: retouched the kick with Multiband compression + EQ
