Recently my sm57 has been responding strangely.
I have used it for years but at the moment the frequency response just seems fucked up.
I have done a super quick test right now on a snare handy using my 57 and my studios normal functioning 57.

Here is my 'broken' sm57 hitting a snare, followed by the same audio but from a normal sm57. My sm57 seems a lot more weighty and hard to process, whereas the second signal sounds a lot more what i'd expect.

And the separate two WAV files are here:

Anyone have any ideas?

I don't know if yours is broken but shure offer an exchange where you send your broken 57 in and you can get a replacement 57 discounted. I had one break last week and am doing that.....

Ah thats great. Could you possibly give me any more info? As I tried doing this a couple of years ago with another 57 and got nowhere with the person i was corresponding with at Shure.

Cheers

I think you just contact them about a repair RMA and then they send you a new mic for a flat fee of $50. We "repaired" our entire fleet of beta58's for $500 at my old shop.

I tried getting in touch with them about my Beta 52, good luck getting a response, still waiting two months later.

i guess you sent a mail? phonecalls are much more effective in such cases... Tel.: +44 (0) 1992 703058 (uk-nr)

I did indeed. Don't see the point in having the mail option if they're not going to respond. Will give that number a try though, cheers!
