SM7B and firepod

Hi,

I'd like to know if the preamps of my firepod are good enough to drive a sm7b or I'll have to put the preamp gain to the max and have awful noise.

You should be fine. I have an M-Audio Fast Track Ultra which probably has less preamp gain than the Firepod, and the SM7B worked and sounded just fine.

Works fine for me. On quieter sources (vocals) I have to set the preamp pretty high, but not full boar.

Sounds great on mine. I've never had to pin the preamp on my firepod or fp10.

I have to crank it to full if I record Spoken Word stuff with my SM57.

Yes it will.. I got some vocal tracks now that was recorded with just that combination.
They even managed to induce major clipping on some of them...

tracking at low volumes isnt a bad thing. there is plenty of noiseless gain on tap in your DAW

You need to gain stage correctly/set your levels correctly to get a good none noisy/grainy sound.

Well no, not necessarily, you'll probably get more noise/grain by really pushing a cheap preamp as opposed to keeping it lower and just cleanly (digitally) boosting the signal in the DAW as he was suggesting
