So... any first-hand accounts of the Milwaukee Metalfest?

I wasn't there, however I went to a local show in Chicago yesterday and got some info from a band that did play up there...

There were about 30 people there Saturday from what they said..the orginization was it's usual disaster...I guess Cage was suppose to play but the orginizers never got them their plane tickets then told them to fly out and they'll pay them back when they get there (yeah right!). Overall it didn't sound like anything really positive was going on.

Actually CAGE cancelled like two weeks ago. I recieved and email from thier manager telling me they cancelled their Milwaukee Metalfest and two chicago shows this weekend due to them planning a bigger tour in the fall. I am actually mad that Milwaukee Metalfest didnt get thier act together this time around. I actually like the fest. I have many complaints about it...poorly run and lots of crap bands, but I have seen some bands I will never again see in my lifetime play there.

MILWAUKEE METALFEST DISASTER

FIRST THINGS FIRST....
MILWAUKEE METALFEST 2007 was a fraud!!!!
In regard to ALL of the bands that either performed or were scheduled to perform on the PROJECT INDEPENDENT STAGE...
I personally apologize for this bullshit... even though I had ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the sound. I paid just like everybody else, to fly my banner behind that stage. I was very patient on day 1, however when the second day was just as fucked, I pulled my banner, and told the promoter that my role now became to defend the rights of all of the bands that got fucked.
100+ bands paid $1000 - $2000 per band PLUS expenses to travel to Milwaukee and Play at a Metalfest with a GREAT history, however for some reason, the promoter JACK KOSHICK, overlooked using that revenue to actually promote the event.
150 people watched GOD FORBID.... 148 of them were other band members.
Jack Koshick generated over $100,000 in revenue JUST from the performing bands and their sponsors, yet with ALL of that money they couldn't be any more professional?
No Radio, No promotion, No Pro Sound for pro bands...
THIS IS CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT TIME!!!!
AND EACH AND EVERY BAND THAT GOT FUCKED BETTER STEP UP!!!
or you ALL can SUCK MY DICK!!!
I'm at my attorney's at 10:00 am on Monday Morning, filing a class action lawsuit on behalf of Project Independent and each and every band that got fucked.

An Open Letter To MMF Bands and Sponsors...
Dear Bands and Sponsors,

I am writing to send you my deepest, most sincere and heartfelt apologies for what happened this weekend at Milwaukee Metal Fest. From day one the show was a complete and total disaster.

Against impossible odds, I did everything in my power to try to rectify many of the problems that arose, and when the man responsible for those problems disappeared or refused to help, I stood by you to offer my help and support to whatever extent I could, and to listen. It obviously wasn't enough.

Milwaukee Metal Fest is a Jack Koshick Presents production, not a Monolith Entertainment Group or Rob Mason production. While I was contracted to bring in sponsors and high quality bands, a job I did very well, I was deceived as to the scope of the headliners, paid entertainment and level of promotion at the event.

None of the sponsors for the event are responsible for the problems that arose, particularly on the third stage, and they deserve your appreciation and support. The responsible party for the third stage nightmare has issued the following statement on their website:

This letter is addressed to all persons involved with Milwaukee Metalfest XIX:

WIPZ agreed to be a sponsor in conjunction with Jack Koshick and Monolith Entertainment Group (MEG) to assist with the promotion and production of Milwaukee Metalfest XIX, on May 11th and 12th.

At this time, I as Station Manager want to extend an open apology to the promoters, staff, bands and fans that sacrificed greatly to assemble and put on what promised to be a kick-ass event for all involved.

Due to technical problems stemming from equipment malfunctions, WIPZ failed to provide the service that has become a hallmark of our incredible staff, and due to this, we have severely hurt the credibility of Jack Koshick, Rob Mason (MEG), Project Independent, and most importantly, all the bands and fans that took part in the festival and suffered due to what transpired with our equipment problems.

No amount of saying "sorry" is merely enough, but rest assured that all the staff of WIPZ, and myself personally who has attended the majority of the Metalfest events that have been promoted by Jack Koshick, deeply regret this terrible failure of service, and we, the entire WIPZ will endeavor to make good on our difficulties here, and to move forward to help atone for the problems that transpired here, and to once again serve the underground metal community that has been so good to me and the entire WIPZ staff and station throughout the years.

If any of you, the fans, the bands, and the promoters, sponsors and all else involved feel the desire to do so, please contact me at any time, and regardless of what you feel compelled to say, please do not hesitate to contact me at your earliest convenience, as it is my responsibility and duty t you all to respond to, and address all of your concerns.

Sincerely,

Andrew Scheeler

As for myself, I deeply regret getting involved with this fiasco. Like you, I was honored to be asked to assist with a once legendary event. To those of you who worked so hard and paid so much to be a part of this festival, no apology will suffice for what you have suffered, and nothing I can say can make up for what you had to endure.
I can only hope that my efforts this weekend were seen and recognized, and that my refusal to run away when others did lends credibility to this statement.
Sincerely,
Rob Mason
Monolith Entertainment Group

Yep. That sounds about right. I hope you win.

150 people watched GOD FORBID.... 148 of them were other band members.

cut that down to a third of that number and it sounds like most Atlanta local metal shows I've been to in the past year. :ill:

 the scene is a sad, sad place these days unless a band with a name like Blind Guardian comes to town.

So.. is the guy just pocketing the money he gets from sponsors and what not or is he just piss poor with money management?

And, they are already planning for next year! http://www.metalfest.com/

All kidding aside, why do bands keep dealing with him? I know people want exposure. I cannot blame them for that. But, at what price? There are many better ways to get your name out there than to deal with this charlatan. As for the 150 people that bothered to show? The reason is probably reputation. The Metalfest name is so badly tainted that you could have had Iron Maiden, Axel Rudi Pell, and the Nightwish press conference introducing the new frontwoman on the bill, and you would only get 150 people to go.

Damn that is messed up.... I hadn't heard all of the details before... absolutely unbelievable... :zombie:

For a second there I was thinking that he meant that there was another festival out that we should know about... But now i get it.. ;)

Check out this amazing picture of the crowd assembled for the Vicious Rumours set. This was sent to me by a friend who was in attendance on day one. Keep in mind they were the headliner for Friday...
