So I finally found the time to sit down and listen to Operation: Mindcrime...

I don't exactly understand how Queensryche relates to the "cock rock" scene. I mean, if you don't like them, you don't like them. That's fine. But how can you lump them in with bands like Poison and Bon Jovi? Their lyrical content was always aeons above these bands, never degrading themselves with phallic fantasies or base level party attitude. Their music was always well thought out and executed compared to most of the cock rock scene. With the exception of the hideous press photos during the RfO days (which EMI apparently forced them to do), they never had an image. Please explain this.

Mindcrime still gets the occasional spin from me as well and I listened to it relentlessly for years after it was released. Of course, Rage For Order, Empire, and The Warning get some occasional exercise but if I'm in a 'Sryche mood, Mindcrime usually gets the vote.

To lump Queensryche in with the rest of the glam mess just pointedly shows the effect of long term crack addiction.

Because their music sounds VERY similar to those bands, especially in the vocal department.

You must have never listened to them then, as they sound NOTHING like hair metal bands. If I had to compare them to anyone it would be a mix of Rush, Iron Maiden, Pink Floyd and Fates Warning. Geoff Tate's vocals are better compared to someone like Bruce Dickenson or Halford, or someone in that range. He does have some opera training as well.

I think your assesment of Queensryche is completely baseless, and pointless.

Cheesy image based around rock steriotypes? Check.

Balls-in-a-vice singing? Check.

Ostentatious guitar wankery? Check.

The only difference is lyrical subject matter... and that's not much. Power / prog metal = cock rock + pretentiousness - fun

Queensryche are one of my favorite bands of all time, and Mincrime is possibly my favorite album of all time. incredible story and absolutely brilliant music and lyrics.

And as for you, LuminousAether, If you don't like Queensryche, fine. You are entitled to your own opinion, but the accusation of Queensryche being a hair band is grossly inaccuarate. Do they dress up in absurd bright spandex, glitter, wear huge, hairspray-drenched hair, burned and killed by being teased a million times? No, with the exception of the photos in the rage for order album, which was forced by the record executives so they can sell more albums. Do they sing about fucking women, and drinking at night, while fucking more women, while women are fucking women? No. Quite the opposite. They sing about the inner mind and soul and real subjects, not indulgant sex fantasies. Do hair bands write intelligent songs with smart, complex, experimental song structures and time changes, that are melodic, yet technical, YET emotional? HELL NO! Do Queensryche? HELL YES! so, no, i do not think they are "pretentious cock rock". That's MY opinion.

You belong on an indie board.

Seriously though, give up. You don't know what you're talking about. Admit your blatant ignorance and move on.
