I am by no means an engineer, nor do I want to be - I just want to make my demos sound like they were recorded in this century (so when I do take them to a pro I'm better prepared). I threw this track together yesterday and it sounds like I ate a jar of jalapenos and sharted. My gear is bare minimum but from what I gather is more than sufficient. Sampled drums, two guitars and on this one sampled bass. What am I missing here?

Thanks for your time!

guitars
1- less gain
2- less low end
3- more mids
if you have a screamer try using it
there´s lots of information on this in this forum

bass
is there any???
If you have it there i can´t tell!!
That´s why your guitars are so muddy, you´re trying to give body to them but it should be the bass supporting the low end for guitars.
again, there´s lot of raw guitars samples in this forum, listen to it and you can get an idea how sometimes guitars are so thin when played alone ,but when you add a bass = bigger guitars and better mix!!!

Drums
Don´t know what samples you´re using, but there´s loads of them free in this forum and some of them are pretty cool!!!
Your´s just don´t fit the mix!

Don´t get frustrated and lose hope, mixing is a higly specialized craft and every little bit of information can sometimes really make a difference!!
I think everyone who´s into mixing, has thougt they were bad mixers, but they kept trying and gaddering information.

I hope this help´s and get you motivated!!!
