So: report from CalProg, please!

Hey all!!,

CalProg was a lot of fun.....the crowd was very receptive and into it. We really enjoyed watching the other acts. Eric Norlander and IZZ both have awsome material and are worth checking out. Then there's Neal,........in a word ":OMG: ." I mean we all know that "talented" is grossly inadequate in describing him, but nowadays you'd have to add insprired, nay even annointed!!! If you haven't seen him lately for fear of being converted......GET OVER IT!!!! Nick and Ryo joined him onstage and did 'The Doorway' and 'June' which were awesome despite(or possibly due to) being obviously unrehearsed.

As for our set it went really well. We all had fun onstage. We played an abbreviated 'best of' made up of select songs from the DVD recording.......so if you get the DVD you won't have missed a thing. Except, that is, for Tempus Fugit as you may have heard. We were going to do a medley but it was proving to be a mouthful more than we could chew with already limited prep time so Doug brought TF to the table and we all thought it would be perfect. Not too obscure but not expected or obvious either, and a kick to play and listen to for that matter. It was a barn burner and the crowd ate it up.

In short we all had a great time on and off stage. Wish you were all there. Hope to see you soon.

Ted

Let me chime in here. In a day of incredible acts, these guys were MONSTERS. Their sound was immaculate and they are just a model of perfection, hitting every note with precision and grace. I was especially entertained by Ted's between song raparte. He has a most "unique" command of the English language, and a nearly full control of his own personal mouth. But there were in fact many complete sentences that were understandable. :Spin: And if I can quote him he is "Rumbly in the tumbly."

All of the guys were incredibly friendly, and took time with anyone who wanted to talk with them. My daughters were totally smitten with them, and one of the teenage staff volunteers actually said they look like a "boy band". There's just too much handsome in this band. I'm sorry if my beefcakeiness upstaged them.

I am glad they participated and look forward to working with them again.

One of my main (well, mine and Chris') reasons for making the trip from IL to SoCal was for the chance to finally see Enchant live. What a great LIVE band, and such great guys off stage as well. We totally enjoyed our time at dinner and poolside with Ted, Doug, Ed, Bill, and Sean. Thanks guys so much for great music, and more importantly, for your friendship and time over an incredible and unforgettable weekend. May we be able to do it again someday! Thanks again!

Joel and Chris

BTW, when I recover from the weekend and get around to unloading the camera, I'll post a link to our pics.

I wasn't able to attend due to the fact that bill collectors have actually surrounded my house. I found a spare spoon and I'm trying to shovel my way to Mexico as we speak.

Anyway, my dad went and he said it was one of the best concerts he's ever been to, which is pretty remarkable. He was especially impressed with Doug and Ted, to which I had to say, "Duh".

I wish I could have gone. =/

Incredible show. I really enjoyed spending time with the guys both Friday and Saturday and their set was a huge highlight of the show. As Joel said earlier, this band is one of the main reasons I made the trek from South Florida to Southern Cal and they didn't disappoint. The guys were all great. I look forward to seeing them again in the future, and to the DVD. The Tempus Fugit cover rocked my socks off. Quite a nice unexpected treat!

Ack..."missing it" regret has hit me...Oh well...Rush is on the 10th at the Concord Pavilion...Until then...my summer-concert-fetish is only partially being quelled...

Hi Dave,

I wish you could have gone, too, it was an awesome show. Hey, I talked with a nice guy from Seattle--I'm terrible with names and such, but he said he works for a school, any relation? Had cool t-shirts too!

Keep digging--there's gotta be a Calprogday 2005, and you should be there!

Regards,
Kristin

Hi Everyone,

Echoing Ted's comments earlier, we had a really great time in Whittier last weekend! The show went well and the response from the fans there was fantastic. We appreciate the support so much.

A special thank you to Jim and the crew for putting this special event together. Everything went quite smoothly, which isn't an easy task when you think about trying to organize something like this! The other acts were amazing as well. Erik Norlander and IZZ were really impressive, especially the In th Cage medley that IZZ pulled off!! Neal Morse had the audience in the palm of his hand during his acoustic set, which was a truely inspiring performance. IT was great to see Nick and Ryo again!! who joined Neal onstage for The Doorway and June. I have always been a Mike Keneally fan and had seen him live with Steve Vai, but to hear and see him play his own tunes in such an intimate setting was incredible. The guy really shreds!!!!

Anyway, we are putting the finishing touches on the DVD which will be out sooner than later!

Thanks again to everyone for making the CalProgDay a great experience for us.

Sean

I also echo both Sean and Teds words of thanks and great appreciation to all involved in this great event. You all made this the great experience it was! To everyone who attended this and showed so much suport THANK YOU.

Jim and his crew were incredible and really did an outstanding job with this, and are some of the nicest people anyone will ever meet! THANKS AGAIN SO MUCH!

I apoligize to everyone I was not able to hang with and talk to more I had quite a busy weekend trying to work in time for my family down there. It was amazing to have so many people out but also a also a great challenge with time. I had 20 relatives and immediate family members out, some who I had not seen in a long time so was running trying to make time for everyone.

I really wish I would have had more time to talk with more people and visit. That is always the best part.

Once again a huge thank you everyone.

NP ) Our set playing in my head and a vision of a whole lot of amazing people watching us! It does'nt get any better! :)

Hi IL Beardfan,

Yes, I was there, and THERE is still playing in my brain! I have my own personal Calprog dvd running! I wouldn't have missed this show for anything, and when a front row ticket sort of came my way, I happily moved :Spin: up from the third row. So which  DJ are you? And did I speak with you? And any insanity or incoherence on my part was due to the overdose of prog which I will gladly endure again, and again...

You were there? I thought you couldn't go? Now I'm wondering if I talked to you... dark hair, front row, with a guy with a pony tail??? Hmmmmmmmmm...

Actually, I think you spent more time talking to my g/f Chris, the tall red-head. I was the dork in the back-brace (STILL!!! :-(), who had the pleasure of doing Erik Norlander's intro. You're in some of our group shots by the pool, when I manage to get them online I'll post a link.

Ah, that was you! I really enjoyed talking with Chris--she's great. And anyone who has a girlfriend like Chris, AND likes Quentin, cannot be a dork! Once I actually get a connection with the Dividing Line, I'm going to get acquainted with all of you. It was a great weekend, wasn't it!

Five days in beautiful southern California and seeing Enchant for the first time was the highlight of our trip. Getting to meet the band and personally say thank you was just the icing on the cake. We were blown away (but not surprised!) by how fantastic they sounded. Cannot wait for the DVD to relive the show.

Hi Kristin,

I believe my wife (Teresa) and I sat with you at the Friday night dinner. Was wearing the Garritan Personal Orchestra shirt at CalProg.

Took me a week to catch up on sleep. Got up before 8:00 in the morning on Sunday to drive back to Phoenix after being up until 2:00 a.m. Jim Harrel had woke me up before 6:30 on Saturday to let us know that Neal needed help getting his equipment from the airport. Plus we slept less than 5 hours Thursday night.

Jim

Hi Jim,
Yup, we were at the same table, sitting in the same row--cool perks, eh? It was nice having the hotel, restaurant and the venue all in walking distance. Made the whole weekend very casual and relaxed. That was great of you guys to pick up Neal's gear. By the way, any pix posted yet?

We were a bit short on sleep as well, and long on driving, but it sure was worth it! Hope to see you both at the next Calprogday, if not sooner...
Kristin

Kristin,

No pictures posted as of yet. I've got some cool ones from backstage with Neal and Ryo running through The Doorway. Trying to get a website up but I've been busy doing some other things. Bunch of birthday's this past week including my wife's.

Received an email from Todd last night. Again, we had a great time and met a lot of nice folks there. Enchant were really gracious hosts at the dinner and at other times.
