So the new Nile sorta came and went real fast.

I love "Amongst The Catacombs Of Nephren-Ka", "Black Seeds Of Vengeance" and "In Their Darkened Shrines", but I think "Annihilation.." is pretty crap. Keywords: Generic, uninspired, dull. It sounds like they've thrown together a bunch of songs that were leftovers from the "In Their Darkened Shrines" session and made a full length out of these songs. Their selling point, the Egyptian themes, have been stripped down, and this album is in reality just a run-of-the-mill death metal album that sounds WAY too polished and clean. I want my death metal brutal and unpolished.
Now here's the post I was looking for, awesome.

So unless someone convinces me with a mindblowing mp3 example, pass.

unpolished is usually meh.
Just curious what your thoughts are on other Nile releases? I really dig the sound of Darkened Shrines. Shit, that's seriously like the coolest death metal album ever, so god damn amazing.

Nile is one of my favorite bands. I like all (4) of their cds. First one I got was Black Seeds, amazing like Spiderman!
Amongst is just as good, different because the drums of Pete arent as full sounding as Roddy in the production, and dallas wasnt on that recording.

Then Shrines came out and I jizzed, shat, and vomited all at the same time. I didnt really listen to every song on Shrines though, and Tony gave them a different drum sound.. again.

but since I downloaded the leaked AotW, bought the Special Edition, then bought the regular cd I havent stopped listening to it. I pretty much listen to bits of AotW every single day. and again they bring in a new drummer with George who is the fucking blastmaster. Like I said earlier, im in love with this album its flat out flawless, epic as fuck, and the production is.. IMO perfect.

this one just doesn't impress me all that much. Nile's situation reminds me of Aeternus. After writing some classic material (BtWM, AStNB=BSoV, ITDS), both bands dropped (or radically decreased) the elements of their music that gave them character, originality and quite simply, made them interesting.

NAD, let me lay it out for you. No, you do not need this one. THere is no Unas Slayer of Gods, To dream of Ur, or Defiling the Gates of Ishtar. That "excess fat" is what made them interesting, and what made the previous two albums classics. AotW is not a bad album by any means, but ten years down the road it will not be considered Nile's apex like BSoV and ITDS will be. It's really that simple.

But at least the cover is cool.
