So tomorrow I gotta learn a D-Show board on the fly in front of 20,000 people

Just don't do what a "new" soundguy did to my old band in front of a few thousand people and shut the board off and lose EVERYTHING he had done in soundcheck.

....Zero audio coming through the mains for the entire set. We had no idea, because, ironically, it was one of the best monitor mixes we'd ever had.

wow, I would have killed him

Get the guy with the rental company to set up the board for you, and then do the mix.

Don't be brave or stupid. Ask for help and everyone will have a better set!

Enjoy the experience too.
:)

Haha, I think this one totally qualifies for a true epic fail.

The Digidesign Venue is probably the most intuitive digital mixing board I've ever done FOH on. Also the only one I've ever managed to crash, just by doing basic mixing  the "full scale digital noise into all outputs" or somesuch countdown popup it did almost made me shit my pants. Luckily I managed to boot it in between songs. Ah school, you teach me so many precious things.

It was a messed up situation, and we felt kind of bad for him. A touring band brought their own FoH console in, and refused to let the venue use their board for us (local opener at the time), and their FoH engineer wouldn't work with him on our mix, so he had a pretty shitty crash-course in how to work one of those consoles.

Our sound check was an hour and a half long.....
