What are Green Carnation like?

Like a crappy version of In the Woods..., though they move further from their sound on each album, which implies that they get crappier and shittier with each new release. You're welcome! :tickled:

That's EXACTLY what their first album is. I kinda liked it at first, being a big fan of In the Woods... and all, but then I realized that the album has no direction, only mediocre riffs, and most of it is just one big meandering "what the fuck are you DOING? How the SHIT does this useless fucking riff help THE SONG?" passage. Green Carnation, overall, is not a good band.

hahahahaha that's way better than my description.

looks like i'll finally get to meet this Highway Corsair guy! i'm lookin forward to the show, though tbh agalloch, Deceased and maybe WoY are all that interests me out of these bands. and i only heard Deceased once, and i don't remember much of what they sounded like.

i hear their newer albums are a more traditional metal kinda thing. i swear i downloaded their last album... oh there it is. well, i've never heard venom before (imagine that :P), but this music sounds kind of alright, minus the vocals.

as far as stupid-sounding names for songs go, i believe we have a serious contestant here:

Green Carnation are not "a crappy version of In The Woods". I havent heard their debut, but "Light Of Day.." is a M-A-S-T-E-R-P-I-E-C-E and yes it sums up all that was great in In The Woods, YET it still is pretty inspiring and has lots of fantastic moments. "Blessing In Disguise" on the other hand is TOTALLY different from EVERYTHING In The Woods ever did. Its 70s, but not in the way In The Woods were 70s in "Strange In Stereo" or "three times..". Its kinda really melodic 70s heavy metal, with a modern production. Now the new one..yes its CRAPPY in all aspects.

I can't remember who said it, but do you think Light of Day... could still be considered a masterpiece if the sections were split into individual songs? Or, does the 60-minute thing make it epic, thus giving it more clout in the end?

Huh? Is there any point in making this assumption? Would Piece Of Mind be a masterpiece of the songs were 1 minute longer or shorter? LODDOD is a masterpiece because of its ideas, melodies, riffs, atmosphere, the climax that is built through its endurance, and yes because it is the way it is. Why should i assume what would happen if bla bla etc

Just a hypothetical question...for FUN. :Smug:

this discussion reminds me of something my dad is fond of saying when people get caught up in "what if"s... "yea, and if my aunt had balls she'd be my uncle" :loco: does this actually mean anything? no. but it always makes me laugh

The same question can be asked of any album-length piece, Light Of Day's allure (and hype) can undoubtedly be partly attributed to the fact that it's continuous, the only thing dividing it would have changed would be greater listenability for people with shorter attention spans...and making skipping through the intermission with the female vocalist easier (note: I actually don't mind it that much). :)

I completely agree. :worship:
