I never make snide comments about the usa, im just mentioning the facts.
On topic (and "seriously"), i can understand why someone not from Europe might not be interested in soccer, since obviously they never watched some serious one (or never cared to watch some Champions League etc).

Strangely enough, soccer is the single most popular sport in the U.S. up until the age of 21, then people's interest just disappears. New Jersey is one of the 2 states (along with California) where soccer is crazy popular though.

Well, it's pretty understandable for people not to watch soccer if their home team isn't very good. That's just human nature. USA, Australia, Canada, er...India, Papua New Guinea, Tibet...a few others, hehe.

I'm serious though, it's much more likely that people will be interested in a sport where their team has a fighting chance.

That said, the US is getting better and Australia just qualified for the world cup. Strange things happen -- hey Greece won the European cup in '04. :loco:

Sure, millions of people don't watch soccer (some of my ENGLISH friends don't even watch it), but let's look at the facts: it is the most popular sport in the world and THAT's what makes the world cup so cool.

World Cup is great because it involves the world, just like the World Series. :loco:

Also, soccer isn't widely televised in the US because it's two halves of 45 minutes each, non stop gameplay. You can't put commercials in there and that poses a serious problem for the tv stations.
