So yeah, uh, soccer's pretty interesting actually

it was plain obvious that teams like Spain, Italy, France, England were terribly unprepared for the tournament.

They all play the most games at club level too. It happens everytime, the countries start talking about how many games the players should play during club season.

I'm not implying teams like South Korea or Turkey didn't deserve to reach the semis, but the fact they didn't really have a hard time doing so speaks volume for the average level.

I'll give them the credit. And that's WHY I liked 2002 because it wasn't the same ol same ol winning all the games, even if Brazil did win it. But other than England, and a goal that was disallowed, they had a walk in the park. [/bitter]

The final in 94 sucked ass 110% and this is the first time I'm hearing otherwise. Neither team committed to any attack, and actually chickened out for the extra time / penalties bullshit. The only time a world cup final has gone to penalties. Bah! Bah I say!

The US is playing a friendly against Japan this Friday night. Game will be televised on ESPN 2(?) at 11ET. Mark--friendlies are just exhibition games that teams use to get some playing time and experiment with line ups. Instead of the usual 3 subs, it's not unusual to see 4-6. The games are meaningless and coaches always say they don't care about the result they're only interested in the dynamics.
Here's an article on the game:

Ha, sorry. In my experience most people that don't watch much soccer tend to get confused about the difference between club and international soccer, how tournaments work, and whether any given game "means anything". That, and offsides...

ha ha, I know how offsides works too! (mostly, at least, lol)

I'll be honest, I'm not all that familiar with Euro club and a lot of international soccer; heck, I still don't really know what a "cap" is and why it matters in international play. But friendly is a term used pretty frequently for the U.S. games so I know that one. Appreciate it though. :)

uhhh...why is the US team being elevated to #4 in the world after losing to germany and some other shitty team recently?

soccer still baffles me. Houston just recently got its own soccer team for some league. it's funny to watch the fans, because they're all Mexicans! prolly the same illegals that want equal rights.

anyway, the team was gonna be called Houston 1836, because that's the year Houston was founded or some shit. anyway, all the spics around here got all into a tivvy because that's the same year Texicans kicked the shit outta Mexico. poor poor spics.....

or something like that
