SOCCER NATION!

yeah we should all meet up for a picture or something.

and what is everybody's feeling on the EPL season so far?

there has been talk that this might be Man Cities year to make a run at trying to get in the top 5 anybody (else) see that happening?

He's good (top 10 probably)....but still hasn't performed on the big stage yet....in games that matter.

Liverpool get #19 this year...despite losing Xabi Alonso (probably our best player last year)

Ibrahimovic - 93rd minute, scores winning goal in a 2-1 decision over Hungary in the WC qualifier. I think that counts as performing well on the big stage in a game that does matter...

Shoulda been 3-1. Altidore got robbed.

But, then again, referee was from Honduras. Can't allow those pesky Americans to pass you, can we? :heh:

Altidore did get a bad break on that disallowed goal. He did so well on that play too. I was a little surprised to see Honduran referees, though they were fair, despite that disallowed goal. They did well to keep the flag down on Dempsey's goal as there were a couple players in an offiside position.

Let's see what happens with the Mexico - Costa Rica match.

Once again, Brazil defeated Argentina easily. We beat them 3-1 last night, in Argentina. Luis "Fabulous" Fabiano scored twice, what a streak he's in!! With that result, Brazil is qualified for the WC next year. Argentina's in trouble.

Great to see the US beat El Salvador last night. Donovan played a good game, but I must say, assists never really did count in soccer. It seems that only the USA actually counts them. Is it because of basketball? I am not dissing, just trying to understand the rationale behind it.

And by the way, we really should take a "Soccer Nation" picture. I arrive on Thursday evening, if you guys are interested! =)

How about Friday, instead. I'll PM you, OK?

I'm not sure where it came from, but probably from basketball or even hockey. We've been doing it for decades, whatever the reason.

I honestly think that one reason soccer struggles to gain veiwers here in the US is becuase there are so few stats (goals and saves really is all). Without stats it's hard for some people to quantify the players and say who is good or who is bad, or for the media to say - "this player is having a great year as he has -whatever stat-". Look at hockey, they've invented stats like the "+/-" to fill that void.

Next time I will rephrase with something like "Donovan created both goals with a excellent services". :loco:

Congrats to Brazil. I'm sure it feels good to be locked in at this point.

We have three games to go, and I bet it's going to go down to the final date. We are at Trinidad and Tobago tomorrow.

Honduras travels to Mexico - big game there.

I think the USA is a lock for WC 2010. I'm not concerned at all about us qualifying.

We can breathe a little easier after last night's results. USA over TNT 1-0. We didn't play well, but got a nice goal from Clark.
El Salvador knocks off reeling Costa Rica 1-0, which helps out our situation. If we could manage a win at Honduras (no easy task, especially with our average performance in the last couple games) then we are in. Barring that a win or tie at home against CRC gets us in.

No worries, my friend. There's no way we will fail to qualify this year!:headbang::kickass:
