SOCCER NATION!

I think New Zealand took the title away from Greece as the worst team on the cup so far, however they did manage to score somehow.

That goalie needs to stay on the bench for the rest of the tournament, absolutely terrible.

 So true. Did you notice how fucking rough they are? I mean, some challenges seemed like they literally forgot about the ball and went for the opponent's legs.

I am curious to see North Korea. I am confident that my boys are going to thrash the seven shades of shit out of them, but since it's the World Cup and anything can happen, I'm gonna keep my mouth until the game starts. I can't see North Korea doing anything good though.

There was a cross where the ball passed like 2 feet from the goalie and he just looked at it fly by, didn't even bother to try to grab it. Amateur!

I think Brazil will look bad is they don't score at least 5 goals on this game.

I still think Dunga made a mistake in not bringing Ronaldinho, we shall see if it was the right decision.

Again, I don't want to sound cocky. But considering this Brazilian squad has beaten Portugal (6-2), Italy (3-0), Argentina (3-0), etc., I really can't see them not scoring a few (many few lol) goals.

And I agree with you. Dunga made a HUGE mistake in not bringing Ronaldinho. He also should've brought the new kids on the block (Neymar and Paulo H. Ganso, both from Santos). If you're curious about these players, look them up on youtube. Just search for "Santos 2010" or "meninos da vila", etc. Then just imagine that those two play side by side with Robinho. Santos is quite a scoring machine nowadays, although still not the best team in our league.

No offense to Brazil but I hope someone else wins this, next World Cup is in Brazil and I think we all know who's going to win that one for sure. :)

None taken. It's so funny because worldwide Brazil is considered the second favorite team (losing only to whatever the national team is). Yet, a lot of people (especially in Europe) don't want them to win another world cup. I smell jealousy.

And I will tell you this... Brazil will do anything and everything they can to win the WC at home. Best part of all is that I will be there to see it.

Of course it's jealousy!! It's friggin Brazil!!!

My dad and I were talking about going to Brazil in 2014 for a semifinal and the final. I would love to do more games but those tickets are insanely expensive and coming from Chicago it'll be some major $$$. So that's the plan to start out with. We got 4 yrs to plan it though. lol

I'll check those vids out.

This is exactly why I love the fact that I have family within 30 minutes from 4 of the host cities/stadiums.

Well Ivory Coast and Portugal both looked pretty good. Both made some chances, but a lot of just nothing happening. Still, it will be interesting to see who between them will advance, and once out of the opening round if either can go a bit farther.

Was hoping for an Ivory Coast goal that never happened. Pretty even game all around but just how much camera time does Ronaldo need? Seriously.

I'm gonna make a prediction for that group. North Korea won't advance. :heh:

I thought Ivory Coast and Portugal would be a great game. It began well balanced, with both teams attacking, an "almost" by C. Ronaldo and a lot of rough challenges. As the game progressed, though, I thought Portugal wanted the draw more than anything. For a good while, especially from 30min and on, they seemed to hold onto the ball in their defense and not attack at all. I was expecting a bit more from it, honestly.

Now, is it 2pm yet?

One thing I'm noticing this world cup is that a lot of players are having a terrible second touch. Its just getting away from them and goal opportunities are missed. Seems... to happen more than normal. Maybe its the ball?

Portugal pressed in the final minutes and had a few close calls.

Both teams need a win, else its now planning to beat N. Korea and score more goals than the other, and then seeing who can tie Brazil.

I think it's the ball. The Jabulani has been strongly criticized since the teams began training in South Africa. To quote one of the players, "it's as good as a ball you'd expect to buy at a cvs store."

I think for either Portugal and Cote d'Ivoire this match was the most important. A win would pretty much mean advancing to the next round. We'll see what happens in the next games.

Well aint that special.
I sure as hell was not expecting to be tied at Nil at the half. What's going on!?!?!:erk:

Seriously... Then again, what do you expect when the commie bastards play with a defensive line of 5, with 3 others closing in right outside the penalty box. That's what you get when your team has no skill. All about locking yourselves back in defense. Bastards.

A legitimate strategy against Brazil when you saw Portugal and Cote d'Ivoire tie. A legitimate strategy in general, but vulnerable as it just means more time facing attacks. Hence 2-0.

Ok, so Brazil 2-1 North Korea. Definitely not the score I'd expect, but then again, that's a problem with us, Brazilians. We got used to seeing the team win with style, and that's not the case with this current version of our national team. Our coach says that he'd rather win over put on a show. I can respect that. Anyways, to the game.

North Korea is really annoying. Defensive line of 5, then 3 other players closing in around the penalty box. Brazil has been known for never playing well against a team with a strong defensive strategy, and guess what? It's true. Robinho played well, as did Brazil's defense. I didn't like Kaka, he did more harm than good this game, which is unfortunate. I think it'll take at least another game or two for him and Luis Fabiano to finally click.

As for North Korea scoring in the end... *sigh*

Whatever, we're leading the group. Off to a good start.

At the end that's really what matters. Goals get you the 3 points, not how much you "should have won". After the Portugal - Ivory Coast game coming in at +1 goal difference is a good thing.
Everyone has first game jitters that disappear after the first game. I don't really know North Korea's strategy is coming to this cup, like you said it seems like they are just going to be a major pain in the ass for the other 3 teams. With Brazil having 3 points it's down to Portugal and Ivory Coast to fight for that spot on the round of 16. I want to bet on the safe side that Brazil will advance but I just don't know yet if it'll be 1st place in that group.
Pretty much what was expected for this group is looking most likely to happen.

North Korea parked the nuke in front of goal today but once Maicon scored it was game over. They'll probably play the same way against IC and Portugal and it'll be the team that can't unlock them that'll miss out on the next round.

England are still gonna win the whole thing :)
