SOCCER NATION!

North Korea parked the nuke in front of goal today but once Maicon scored it was game over. They'll probably play the same way against IC and Portugal and it'll be the team that can't unlock them that'll miss out on the next round.

England are still gonna win the whole thing :)

Agreed with you. But I'll bet you anything you want that England won't win it all. ;)

Let me reiterate.

England is NOT going to win the WC.

Though Saladbar, how about the Netherlands? They have a hell of a team and never won it.

I think it's too early to tell with a team like The Netherlands, if they come out on top in their group (which shouldn't bee too hard since they already beat Denmark) and have a solid round of 16 game with any of the F group teams (I predict Paraguay) they might have a chance to make a big impression. Then again if they come out second in their group, play Italy in the R-o-16 and beat them......yeah they could be favorites.

Spain needs to live up to expectations tomorrow though, they are VERY high.

Poor guy. Although Green, the Algerian keeper and the NZ Keeper are pretty much the three stooges of this year's WC.

and David "Calamity" James is yet to get a go if Capello ditches Green......they really should be putting Joe Hart in goal...but i think he's being saved as the no.1 for Euro's in 2012.....don't want to destroy another England keeper's confidence before his time

Rob Green has trained today and in 3 hours he has had 4000 shots fired at him and he didnt concede a single goal. Tomorrow, him and Heskey will train with the rest of the squad.

How about North Korea giving the World a coronary? Maicon had the best goal of the tourney by faking out Ri to the far side. The whole human race expected a cross on that goal. Still, Brazil struggled with NORTH KOREA?!? WTF?!?

Anyone would have struggled against nine fucking defenders the whole game.

Most people following the world cup now should look at the Green goal as just bad luck. Many goalies have had problems judging and holding onto the ball. He's just been the unluckiest. Lalas compared it to a knuckleball and that's how it looks to me. Its also frustrating because the guys can't get the spin on it for free kicks.

This Jabulani is going to go down as the worst world cup ball in history.

4 years ago they were saying the same thing, if I recall correctly. Why a new ball? Why not use what was used in the FIFA club tournament (wow name is escaping me right now of what that tourney is called).

It's called corporate sponsor, and the big wolf is Adidas.

Well that Chile - Honduras game was pretty exciting. The Honduran defense played it's heart out but too bad their mids were lacking. That goalie made a hell of a save off a header that was a goal for sure. Also the referee didn't see a handball by a Chilean player inside the box that would of equalized the game.

Spain is up finally.

One of the most famous sports journalists/critics in Brazil, a little skeptical of our team, posted a really good (although scary) text in his blog. I took the freedom to translate it and post it here. Keep in mind this is one of the most important and most knowledgeable sports journalists in the world.

From the Blog do Juca:

"I will run the risk and suggest a scenario that unfortunately I don't find it too unlikely. It sucks, but it's plausible.

This Sunday, Brazil ties with Ivory Coast.

Maybe Drogba will decide to actually play.

Portugal plays only the day after against North Korea, already knowing Brazil's match result.

The Portuguese will do anything they can to beat North Korea with a 2-goal difference.

For now, hypothetically, let's say they do. Maybe Cristiano Ronaldo will decide to actually play.

In the third, and last round of the group stage, on 6/25, Ivory Coast plays North Korea and would also do anything possible to beat them with a 2-goal difference.

It'd be a friendly match for the Koreans, since they're already eliminated by the two losses against Brazil and Portugal.

At the same time, Brazil plays Portugal.

Portugal, playing for a tie, which would get them to advance.

Still hypothetically, say the match ends in a tie.

Brazil, Portugal and Ivory Coast would end the group stage tied with 5 points.

Portugal and Ivory Coast would advance.

Brazil would be eliminated by goal average. Undefeated.

Coincidences: In the 1966 WC, Brazil played the third match in the group stage against Portugal and was eliminated.

It was the last WC that North Korea participated.

Spain has defensive midfielders who know how to play.

Germany has defensive midfielders who know how to play.

Argentina has defensive midfielders who know how to play.

Netherlands has defensive midfielders who know how to play.

And Brazil has defensive midfielders who don't know how to play: Felipe Melo and Gilberto Silva.

Out of this WC's 32 teams, North Korea is in the lowest ranked team in the Fifa rankings: 105th.

One of the hypothesis that could avoid this tragic scenario?

Maybe the North Koreans will learn how to actuall play.

Another one?

Maybe Brazil's defensive midfielders Gilberto Silva and Felipe Melo will learn how to actually play.

Or?

Maybe Kaka will decide to actually play."

This Spain - Switzerland game reminds me of the U.S. Germany one .. what was it 8 or 12 years ago? Spain is outplaying Switzerland but is down 1-0. Spain has had so many good scoring opportunities but just failed to get it past the goalie.

It's getting pretty annoying, what's it gonna take for that ball to go in?
