SOCCER NATION!

The end result is *ONCE AGAIN*, proof that Spain can't handle the pressure of a World Cup.

Every year is the same story. The only difference is that this year, they're even stronger favorites.

La furia no es tan furiosa afterall.

Ah, okay. Just checking.

Spain pressured Switzerland, but the Swiss played well. I wouldn't call it a pure luck type of win. They were lucky, yes, but they held onto the three points pretty strongly.

The Swiss almost had 2 more goals too, one hit the post. I can't believe they gave 5 extra minutes at the end, even the 4th official wanted Spain to score. lol

Sure. They will beat New Zealand in the final.

The 3rd and 4th place match will be between Honduras and Australia.

Now we would definitely win out of those teams.:tickled:

I am still aiming for a quaterfinals run. that would make me happy as an American. But the best way to do that would be to outscore England in the next two matches, that way we would avoid having to play Germany in the know out round. But if we do play Germany and pull the upset (or maybe even force it to penalty kicks) then AngraRULES if you are coming to PPUSA this year you owe me a drink:kickass:

I will tell you what, there's a 98% chance I won't be at ProgPower. But I'm planning on coming down next year and hopefully bringing the (then) wife for her first fest. I will have to owe you that beer until then (unless you're in the NY area at all).

However, if Brazil take this cup, looks like you'll owe me 2.

Well I dont plan on being in the New York area anytime (as I am in Alabama, unemployed doing to odd jobs on the side for money for this years trip) But if Brazil wins this year, then you can put me down for owing you a drink whenever our paths cross.

USA is going to win the world cup :tickled:

Like every World Cup I'm always optimistic about the CONCACAF teams, I think they need to concentrate on putting on a good performance and establishing themselves as worthy opponents. The best any of these teams has been able to do in the last 50 years is make it to the Quarter finals with Mexico in '70 and '86 and the US in '02. I would love it for the US or Mexico to be a "surprise" this cup like Turkey back in '02 and make it all the way tot he semifinal but I don't see that happening after their respective first games.

I am actually hoping Mexico will beat France tomorrow. The French DO NOT deserve to be in the World Cup, period. And yes, you may think I'm just bitter towards France in general, since they were responsible for our demise in 86, 98 and 06 - you're right ;)

I would like to see South Africa advance in Group A. I like Uruguay and Mexico, so I'll let those two fight for it in the last game. I think Mexico has the better chance, but Uruguay is a decent team. You gotta watch out.

Everybody is. :D I found it hilarious that on the game vs Uruguay there was a play where Henry was calling for a handball from an Uruguayan player. Out of all people.

My 2 choices for that group are Uruguay and Mexico. Staying with the tradition of rooting for the country on your continent. A Mexican victory over France might just do that.

See, I like Uruguay a lot. But I love South Africa's coach (Parreira, from Brazil), and I love the determination with which their team is playing, being that they're home. I don't know, I just feel like the team (and the country) deserve it after all they've done.

I guess that means I'll have to send Mexico home early.

So what else would be new? lol

Playing at home has all the advantages but I just didn't see anything convincing about that team on their first game. The only thing that got them that draw was Mexico's shitty performance. I guess we'll know in a couple of hours how things will change on that group.

Mexico and Uruguay should advance.

Now, is it me, or the red card to the South African keeper was a bit exaggerated? I mean, I understand the "last player" rule, but a yellow card would've done it, no?

I think the last player rule is an automatic red, if it is then it was justified. After they showed the replay it looked like the ref was right, there was no offside and Khune did make that foul.

Ok so after this game I think Mexico HAS to win against France or they're done. You don't want to face Uruguay with 1 point against their 4 with France having 4 going into their last game with South Africa.

I'm also glad there was a 3 goal difference, hopefully games start picking up.
