SOCCER NATION!

Strong showing (offensively) for Argentina. I had a phone call about a possible teaching job (if you are the praying type shot some my away about this) so I missed the 2 goals in the second half. Still no goals from Messi, Tevez, or Milto, but they do play the worst team in the WC next so it should be a clinic on putting the ball in the back of the net.

Yeah the next game should be a piece of cake.

Good luck on that job!

I hope you get the job man, first of all.

Secondly, Argentina's offense is real strong. If they had a solid defense, they could be considered the strongest team.

cool thanks for the help...think i got it now.

are there really any other significant rules? beyond general things like running clock, yellow/red cards, and substitutions i dont see much that requires understanding.

except for a red card...thats like a "power play" in hockey but for the rest of the game right? once a player gets one, they are down a man for the remainder of the match...but does that carry over to next game? i know that player cant play the next game...but its not limited to 10 players again are they?

Red card you are out of that game and suspended for 2 more games after that. The team finishes that game with a man down but goes back to a regular line up the next game.

If a goalie gets a red card then one of the other players has to leave so a replacement goalie can come in. You can't play with an empty net.

1 Yellow card = a caution (a trip from behind, a nasty foul, disprect to the ref, etc)
2 yellows = a red
A player can also get a "straight" Red for an extremely nasty foul, punching a player, stopping the ball from going in the net with your hands, etc.

Once a player has been red carded, he must leave the field and the team plays short a man. Leagues and tournaments typically (FIFA of course does this) suspend the player for the next match, but the team does not start that match down a man.

I saw parts of it. It was pretty boring. But if Greece can tie their next game they'll advance, lol.

they lost a player to a red card, so they struggled in the 2nd half, though they had a great chance on a counter attack..

That second half was pretty much Greece vs Nigeria's goal keeper. He made a lot of good saves too. Nigeria pretty much fell apart on the second half.

Nigeria's keeper is really good. He made some amazing saves during the game against Argentina too. Too bad their team is not as strong as it used to be (circa 96-2000)

If nothing else, Mexico is just an entertaining team to watch; they play so hard and have great nuances. Good game so far. Neither team showing strong defense, but neither team showing the ability to shoot accurately. I think that's one thing that Americans have a hard time understanding, is why these professional guys miss so many shots by such a large distance. I used to wonder this (because we never did in high school), but was basically told that at this level you have to kick so hard, and often put a lot of spin to not only find the open lanes but to get it past the goalies. Sometimes, though, I think the players could learn to just 'pass' the ball into the net, instead of trying to get so tricky with their shots and final passes.

The game started strong for France, it looked like the first 15 minutes was played on Mexico's own half pitch. It did even out a bit more afterwards. For the most part it looked like France had more possession but Mexico had more shots at goal. Should be a good second half. Both teams need to win, a tie won't do any good.
Also Marquez needs to stop whining about every call. I want to give him a yellow just so he STFU.

Podolski... put it in the net. Two goals he should have had, then a really poor penalty kick. Argh!

Ghana will take 1st place in group D. Serbia has a good chance to qualify second and send Germany home early.

EDIT: What a goal, this first Slovenian one. Howard is still looking for that ball in the back of his net...
