Social Anxiety

I'm not even really complaining, I do actually kind of like it like this... things are busy enough as they are. Just bored of the same old topics, and if this generates discussion or turns into some kind of propaganda vehicle then I'll have achieved what I set out to.

I read once that one of the causes of dementia in the elderly is a SOCIAL decline. To further add to this, I actually work at an elderly care facility and have found, in my personal experience, that the people that stay in a mentally healthy position are those that are social and outgoing, while the contrary waste away MUCH more rapidly.

Oh, that and there has been proven correlation to extroversion and happiness.

Just some food for thought for ya’ll. Now, off to a party...

What's the line between social anxiety and a working misanthropy in which you have no difficulties interacting with people and such, but you find it as appealing as eating reheated McDonald's leftovers?

I dunno. I think it's good that you can be at peace with it, but if you really want to branch out it seems like it would limit possibilities. Maybe it's a reaction to feeling pressure towards "assimilating" as much as the general anxiety of having to interact?

Demilich I thought you had a gf? Just marry her, have a couple kids, and do the good ole family thing. Do you really want friends who leave you holding the bill on your birthday?

If you're really dying for some intellectual intercourse...

Just know, that proper social interaction will take alot of "giving". There are few people I know that I have more than a couple things in common with. You just need to focus on the common ground and build friendships from the floor up. Shit takes years. Most of the people I associate with, are people that I have known for 8-10 yrs. Just let it loose brother. You can't be living in a shell with your sweater draped over your forehead. If you're at a sandwich shop grabbing a bite, shoot the shit with a stranger. If you're pumping gas at the station say hello to the neighbor next to you. Whats the worse that can happen? Being "snubbed"? You never know when a simple "hey how's it going" can lead to something.

I have a limited pool of friends these days, and I'm fine with that. Used to have gigantic circles and they were great, but eh.

I think some form of social interaction is important, but I think people that can't handle being alone have a bigger problem. I know a lot of people like that.

Stop smoking weed. No, seriously. It makes you want to stay in + can make you unnecessarily nervous in unknown social situations

Very well stated my good sir. And yeah, I do have a girlfriend. She's the exception... she actually makes it easier for me to have no friends because I just do everything with her. I don't really have a problem with public interaction and shit... problems start when things get more serious.
