Won't a hoodie be a little warm DE?? 90 degrees and all
Hahahahahahahahaha...wearing a hoodie on an SF night is just common sense. The Pound is a stone's throw from Candlestick park. It was cold and windy as fuck! The only people wearing T-Shirts were the tweakers. Even a half dozen beers didn't keep me warm.
The show started off pretty bad...Chimaira was late and Soilwork had to play after Unearth. The sound guy just KILLED Soilwork. It sounded like he had everything set to "Mudvayne". All I could hear was bass, bass, bass, bass. Everybody was shaking their heads, but nothing was done about the shitty sound. I couldn't even recognize what songs they were playing sometimes. Soilwork played like 4 or 5 songs, said they had to wrap it up, apologized for the short set, and walked off stage. I dunno what happened. Maybe Bjorn hurt his throat trying to be heard over all that shit.
Chimaira was solid. They told everyone they were filming a video for "Pure Hatred" and it got everyone pumped. The highlight of their set for me was when they played "Eyes of a Criminal". I love that song. I even saw a couple girls running around in the mosh-pit during it. These guys have really evolved as a group. The first album sorta sucked, the new one is good, but I think the next one will be awesome. We'll have to see. I think touring w/Slayer for a year really rubbed off on these guys.
And then In Flames came on. Holy shit. These guys are such pros. Their live sound was tight. I just stood there watching Jesper tear shit up for like an hour. His timing, creativity, and guitar solos are amazing. Say what you will about R2R, but these guys are still the kings of the Swedish metal scene IMO. From now on, if In Flames come to California, I'll find a way to see them - even if I have to drive down all the way to San Diego. They were just that good. I'm telling you, viva fucking Sweden.
