Soldano vs. 5150 vs 5150III

I cant yet say for sure, but reputable people have said that Peavey has made some circuit tweaks somewhere along the line and that this is reflected in the new manufactured 6505s. If anything, they sound better. As much as I hate saying that.

I'm going to try to confirm this in the near future, take circuit board pictures, and throw it in Peavey's face.

The honest to God truth, is I love my 6505, so if anything, it's to my benefit :)

lolwut Greg, you modded your 5150 III and sold your modded 5150s to get a 6505? You change your mind about amps even more than I do about guitars... lol

My amp mentality has always been compare and conquer. I preferred my 5150 III to my Blockletter 5150 and my modded 5150 II. I sold both of those to fund my Fortin. Then, I needed an amp for live, so I picked up a 6505 new from Sweetwater for a great price (they owed me a favor... long story). Anyhows, I got the 6505, plugged her in, and she sounded great... I then compared it to my 5150 III and preferred the 6505 by quite a bit for all applications I would have used the 5150 III for. The 5150 III definitely lacks a bit in the balls department. The 5150 III was sent to Mike Fortin for mods, and it has now become my live amp; it has tons of balls now that it has a push/pull depth control for each channel to tailor to high or low tuning.

I think a blend of Hot Rod 100+ and 5150 would be ideal...The thickness of the Soldano with the balls of the 5150. I think this shootout accurate captures the differences between all 3 amps also, this is exactly the difference I hear between my Avenger and 6505's, and the difference I've always heard between 5153 and 6505. Soldano>6505>5153

And to clarify I think the 6505 is seated best in the mix, but I'm a guy who thinks it is sometimes good to have a guitar tone that sticks out a little bit and offers something different than what everyone else has got.
