just recorded this quick first take to check how my nylon"axe" sounds (not me playing!).

chain:

2xkm184 + 1x c414 (blended in softly)-->API preamps-->Apogee AD16x-->smart C2 (not grabbing more than 0.5 or 1 dB max on this one)

the guitar is actually pretty cheao but I still like the sound quite a bit:

Acoustic Guitar

Pretty sweet. You might tame the bass a bit with multiband compression (just like Andys C4 setting)
Isn't that nice to listen to such music sometimes? :)
btw. there are special nylon guitar strings for recordings that doesn't make as much fingernoises than the normal ones.

yeah, the multiband comp thing was in my mind also..just wanted to hear how it sounded without it first.
the strings on this one were really old anyway, I'll record this guys whole CD soon, we'll get new strings than anyway...thanks for the tip with the noiseless strings, didn't know about that

That's actually really sweet sounding Lasse. I'd be interested in hearing this guy's CD as well. :)

thanks..
uploading a slightly improved version now....check again in 5 mins.

actually....this guy writes books and the CD will be the soundtrack for his next book.

Guy's name is "Nil"...check him out at nil-lus.com

the update sounds great again, but perhaps the left side a bit more upfront then right?

would you like to give us some details about mic placements and mixer settings?

yeah, did this on purpose...the neck.side is further left than the bridge mic...and I wanted to have the sparkling neck.mic a bit more upfront....like the guitarist sits a bit further to the left side....

the two 184 are spaced pair (one aiming at the bridge and one at where the neck meets the body.
the 414 was close to the second one and in omni mode....it's very silent in the mic though....distance mic-guitar was roughly 12-15" I'd say
neck 184 at 0dB, bridge at -9 and 414 at-14 or something.

settings on C2 3:1, 0.3ms attack, auto release. reverb is revibe

Absolutely gorgeous sounding dude; dare I say a lot of that owes to the player and his guitar, but still, great job capturing it! However, I really can't jive with that slightly left orientation; if there were something else in the mix then I might feel differently, but right now it's just kinda distracting tbh...

Very nice sound!

I didnt find the fingernoise to be all that excessive here. Sometimes it just adds some realism
to the performance. To me at least it just sounds "fake" if there is no fingernoise.

What API pres was this?

Really nice sounding Lasse. Very cool piece as well...is it an original composition by the guy? Do you have any small diaphragm omni microphones? That may be another cool thing to try out since you were doing a spaced pair.
