Firebreath is falling asleep on his job. Here are some bands that may have flown under your radar recently.

Bullet- Full Pull: AC/DC clone.

Cryptic Vision- Of Infinte Possibilities: Prog rock for the Spock's Beard/lighter Shadow Gallery fans.

Fen- Of Losing Interest: Hard rock for the most part but they throw some nice prog chops in here and there.

Knight Fury- Time to Rock: Old school metal (Maiden, CGlory, etc) with Dave Ellefson. I can't get past the production.

Unwritten Pages- Fringe Kitchen: Innovative prog metal with John Macaluso on drums. More for the eclectic Pain of Salvation fan than the YJammers of yester year.

Dragony- Legends: Raise your fucking sword.

Fiakra- Invasion: ...And shove the metal sword up your ass.

Emerald- Unleashed: I actually dig this one for the very cool Maiden influence.

Stargate- Beyond Space and Time: Italian progpower hybrid (cool flamenco bits!). Vision Divine fans should check it out.

Lahannya- Dystopia: Goth rock with chick vox.

Cry for Eden- The 11th Hour: Warm 90's style prog metal with chick vox. Good stuff!

The Order- 1986: All of you old bastards out there will enjoy this. I dig the vocals big time. Roll the windows down and cruise the strip.

Eternal- Chapter 1: More quality old school hard rock with big hooks.

Vanir- Onward Into Battle: I'm no folk metal expert, but this is quality (I'm a sucker for bagpipes).

Blood of the Black Owl- Light the Fires!: Throw prog/black/folk/stoner into a blender and chew on some peyote in the spirit lodge. This disc will exhaust you.

Stealing Axion- Moments: Heaviest Inside Out release ever. It's all over the place with nods towards Hevy Devy.

Interesting stuff - NONE of which I had heard before so that makes it much cooler. This line however cost me a snootful fo some very good IPA dammit:

These guys get a blind buy just on that comment alone - once my nose stops burning from the hop overload going through it :)

Cheers

Crimson Glory fans need to check out the melody line at the 3 minute mark from that The Order song...

Thanks for putting this up - I listen to a TON of Prog and Metal these days (160 albums from 2012 so far...), but I am still amazed at how many bands I still hear about that I didn't know existed.

***Thanks for the Adastreia --- been looking for stuff like that .... where to purchase ??

Thanks for posting this.........

I listened to everything here and two really impressed me:

No surprise: Dragony - right in my musical wheelhouse
Total surprise: Blood of the Black Owl - wow, I didn't expect to love that! Very cool.

Thanks for posting.

thanks for including FIAKRA in your list Glenn. Those guys really impressed me with their (extremely shortened due to foul weather) set of balls-out heavy metal during the Warriors of Metal Fest in Ohio last June. FIAKRA were like the soundtrack for a battlefield full of Harley bikers and dragonriders! \m/

They impressed me so much in fact that I immediately invited them down to play a show here in Atlanta on Nov 10th along with Burning Shadows & A Sound of Thunder - both from Maryland - and two of my strong local acts, Brazen Angel & Mnemosyne, with headliners RAVEN (yes, the RAVEN from the U.K.!).

Anyone in metro Atlanta should definitely come check out this event at The Loft at CenterStage. And don't act like you don't know how to find the place. :Smug: LOL

Glad to see the attention given Cryptic Vision. These guys are the real deal for prog fans. Not metal but they sure have some good hard rock chops. Great musicians and songwriters. I agree they are similar in nature to Shadow Gallery and Spock's Beard/Neal Morse. Would love to see these guys play live again.

I'm in semi-retirement Glenn. I am still finding new shit but not posting bar the odd one. To be fair though there are threads on 3 or 4 of those you posted already. Maybe the new year might kick start my zeal for posting more.

Man, you gotta start posting again about all these new bands/albums you find...
:D

More good melodic metal bands/albums you might have missed from 2012 so far...Some just released, or about to be, some a bit earlier this year.

LOVE.MIGHT.KILL-2 Big To Fail (excellent follow-up to the also excellent Brace For Impact from last year. Killer hard rock/melodic metal IMO with ex-Firewind/new Helloween drummer)

ECLIPSE-Bleed and Scream (maybe my fave album of 2012 so far. Killer hard rock/melodic metal, their overall heaviest and best disc so far)

PERSIAN RISK-Once a King (excellent NWOBHM stuff, melodic metal or classic hard rock, as you wish. Carl Sentance hired a bunch of guys to reform Persian Risk after the original guys bailed out, and he did a killer job. One of my faves albums lately)

CORRODED-State of Disgrace (modern metal from Sweden. One of the only bands in that style I enjoy)
[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c0BgM5r9LNw&feature=relmfu[/ame]

REDLINE-Vice (one of my fave albums lately with the Persian Risk one. They got a new singer since 2007's Ignition, re-recorded most of the tracks, added a few new ones, and this gives a killer classic metal album IMO)

THE MYSTERY-Apocalypse 666 (very good melodic power metal with female vox that has balls)
[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QtsG6mmYvbQ&feature=relmfu[/ame]

PHANTOM-X - The Opera of the Phantom (good US true metal, singer reminds me of Jon Oliva with his tone)

SISTER SIN-Now and Forever (might be my fave by them so far)

STEEL ENGRAVED-On High Wings We Fly (good melodic power metal)

IMPERA-Legacy of Life (the last album where I heard Alfonzetti's vocals was on 2004's Damned Nation-Sign Of Madness. This new album is cool)

Had no idea there was a new Cryptic Vision. They played at the second(?) RoSFEST and were really, really good. Heavier live than on their CDs. Will have to get this.

Haven't heard any of the other stuff in this thread, so I guess I have lots of listening to do!
