I haven't been buying much new power metal albums this year except for the new Pyramaze, Evergrey, Mercenary, Luca Turilli, and Rhapsody (of Fire?) .

Can anybody recommend me some new albums of heavy/fast or neoclassical power metal with kick ass shredding?

please help a metal brother out!

Adagio - DOMINATE :kickass:

this one really turned my attitude around about this band. From what others say, this is a much heavier album than previous efforts. And I'm glad I bought it. Hardly a day goes by that I don't play at least one track from it.

Another new one I have yet to order myself is Eidolon's latest 'The Parallel Otherworld', which the one sample I've heard - 'Ghost World' - takes me back to older Fates Warning (John Arch days). The addition of Nils K. Rue on vocals will do nothing but catapult this band into long-overdue rights of acceptance in the prog-power genre.

...an older cd that comes highly recommended from me if you like Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, and Black Sabbath style heaviness and shredding is Overlorde - Return of the Snow Giant ... pay particular attention to Bobby Lucas' vocal style. It ROCKS!

I recommend Soil Work "Stabbing the Drama", great Swedish Power Metal.
Another you may want to check out is Morgana Lefay " Grand Materia”, another miracle from Sweden, does that country ever run out of great metal?
Jorn "The Duke" is another must have.

Can't go wrong with any of these! :headbang:

Blind Guardian-A Twist in the Myth
Entwine-Fatal Design

and i know this isn't power metal, but it's a good album IMO and you could find that you really like it. Tool's "10,000 Days"

I have to agree with you on Overlorde. Great vocal style and fantastic guitar work. However, I have gotten the new Eidolon and I simply can't listen to it. Musically it kicks ass. Unfortunately, his vocal style does not fit with Eidolon. He is great with Pagans Mind. It just doesn’t work for me with this band. He has an awesome prog voice. Eidolon is more power, musically. I am not taking anything away from Nils or the Eidolon brothers, they just don't work well together in my opinion.

Hey all.

Rider and trx, thanks for the good words about Overlorde. Joe, the Overlorde CD is available at THE END/OMEGA and will be available at Progpower from THE END.

Also check out our label's MySpace page.

They have a few good bands that fit the style you are looking for. Specifically EUROFORCEand PERPETUAL.

Besides the songs in the music player, scroll down also to see videos from those bands (the videos are for different songs than the songs in the player).

Those CDs are also available from THE END.

Kiuas Reformation. Very varied, somewhat unique. Blends a lot of good styles. Kind of sounds like Sonata Arctica meets Manowar meets Children of Bodom... but not at all.

Pharoah The Longest Night. Very well done, Maidenesque. Features Tim Aymar from Control Denied on vocals.

Persuader When Eden Burns. Sounds like Blind Guardian, without the dancing elves.

Kind of a shameless plug here, but there is some serious shredding going on on Marcel Coenen's "Colour Journey". Not all songs are the *in-your-face-shredfest* type, just to be up front... nonetheless, the man's skills are just insane.

It's a blend of instrumental and vocal based pieces, from soft to over the top heavy and everything in between. Instead of writing a novel here, I'd recommend reading some of the reviews to see if it's up your alley.

P.S. Mike from Cloudscape is on the opening track, I'm on two others (hence the shameless plug. ;)
