someone (alex?) explain this whole Israeli and Palestinian thing to me

ehhh I think open warfare is a given--the PA can barely keep order as it is, and it would just end up being Palestinians attacking occupying IDF forces. regarding the settlements--there really isn't that much room left in Gaza, and virtually no Jews would balk at living next to Palestinians. the general attitude among almost all super-right-wing, super-Zionist settlers is "As long as they obey the law I don't mind having Palestinians living in Israel/next door to me". They think it makes them moderate. There really are few to none of the "exterminate the Palestinians" types left.

I think what you might be angling for is the "one-state solution", a single state of Israel-Palestine with no divisions between ethnicities. I think that's on the table for the future, but there's got to be a two-state solution first. once the two states show they can live in harmony, Israelis will be less wary about the one-state solution, and Palestinians as well.

I agree that the two-state solution is more likely to happen in a shorter time. However, by shuffling Israelis out of Gaza now, you are creating resentment on the whole population of Israelis for years to come. All I am saying is that I am happy that the Israeli government showed good faith and order the pull out. I am not sure what good it will make, I hope it will kickstart something very significant and finally some sort of solution can be reached that the majority of Israelis and the majority of Palestinians are satisfied with, I have just doubts about it.

indeed. we agree on 90%.

as for "creating resentment", well, fuck that. i don't care if conservative southern types "resent" john kerry and his book-learning, he would have been a better choice to lead our country. i don't care if palestinians resent occupation--it's still not okay to blow up buses. and i don't care if israelis resent being shipped out of settlements they shouldn't have had. people are going to have to stop getting resentful about not getting their way if their way isn't conducive to harmony.
