hi, i know, it's probably not the type of music most of you are into, but it's a job i gotta do at the moment, and actaully i'm starting "not to hate it" ;)

but at the moment i've got the feeling of being stuck, i cannot really tell whether the mix is good or sux right now.
i guess you know that stage of "blindness", when you can't tell your ass from your elbow anymore? ;)
so i'd really appreciate hearing some outside-opinions from you.

here it is:

the bands guide was "it's gotta be dirrrty and grungy!!"

I like the BigBeat sound here a lot. The kick and snare could use some more attack (maybe add a kick sample that has a bit more attack otherwise it's gonna be difficult in the clubs). The guitar in the intro has too much treble. It hurt my ears when it started.

The 303 type sound that goes on through most of the song is too prominent, while the vocals are somewhat mixed back. I'm a fan of vocals that are up front, so I'd change that and mix the 303 into the background and the vocals up.

I think overall you just need more definition and less high end on some instruments.

thanks for your replies.
prob is, that i don't have the sep. drumtrack, all i got was a stereofile, so i'm pretty limited there.
same goes for guitars, they were recorded direct from a mesa studio pre with an assload of clipping on them, so i just did some impulse cab simulation etc, can't really get rid of the harshness '(clipping) without making them sound too dull.

the guitar in the intro is really buzzy, that kick could use a bit of definition, the synth behind the vocals is like all buzz. musically though i think it's pretty cool. i could definately see it being used in a game or at a club.

all i got are some stereo-files (also every synth was just the stereofile, so the basic sound was already given), so alot of things are just impossible to fix unfortunately.

when everything is buzzing, because it's distorting, there's little you can do in the mix ;)

for you to compare, here's a snippet of the version that the engineer did, who got the job before i had to do it ;)

and he didn't even do a bad job

having heard that i'm sure you don't wanna listen to the original tracks ;)

as you can see it's not the job you wish for as an AE, sometimes you have to make shit fly

Oh, since that musical style is right up my usual alley, if the band is interested I can do a little remix if you up the wavs :)

sure 'bout that:heh:
