If there are any fans of this Finnish power metal band here and you have their new album Unia what do you think? I don't download music a whole lot, if I have access to buying an album and I like it then I will get it and sometimes I will d/l a few songs to get the vibe of the album before it comes out. Tonight I downloaded 'In Black and White', 'Paid In Full' and 'My Dream's but a drop of fuel for nightmare' and wow this sounds a lot different to the SA I was a fan of before. From what I have heard it does actually sound like they have a taken a progressive turn with this material and its a bit all over the place, its a bit darker and there are a whole lot of musical ideas that clash but it works somehow. I will pick this album up when it comes out if not for my love of SA but for curiosity of this weird sounding album. What do you think?

I DL'ed it, and it is a cool album...lots of more progressive stuff on there...I think that they had to venture off the beaten path a little for the sake of their music...it was starting to become a fact that Sonata Arctica music all sounded the same/similar...now this album doesn't, which is pretty awesome...I didn't like it the first time I heard it, but with repeated listens, it just got better and better...

Lyrically weak (he actually sang "it's not over till the fat lady sings")...

and musically uninteresting. actually it's decent. but after Reckoning Night and Winterheart's Guild, this is a step down

pretty much all their albums suck lyrically ken. They have cool songs like fullmoon and the end of this chapter (but what thehell is with "i sat in your coalmine"?) but mostly... they're european.

I call it "In Flames syndrome". Something with the lyrics just doesn't translate. And i call it In Flames syndrome because... well, read the lyrics to gyroscope if you have any questions.

Sonata has a ton of funny lyrics, but I've learned to live with it because their melodies rule. Ever read the lyrics to "Champagne Bath"? What the HELL are they talking about?

Can't wait to hear the new one, though.

If you really want to see how bad Sonata's lyrics get just read the lyrics for Letter To Dana of Ecliptica, jesus fucking christ I couldn't stop laughing first time I heard that.

I got to agree that many finnish bands like Sonata Arctica make absolutely rediculous lyrics. Stratovarius isn't any better.

I'm not a big fan of Sonata, but I think they have some quite good songs and melodies. Still, I have never been able to take them seriously and I don't like the singing of Toni Kakko.

Awesome album. The best they have ever released to date.

Reckoning Night was phenomenal itself, this one is even better. Who cares about the lyrics? This is just great Melodic Prog Power.

lol, i don't think you can possibly call any of Sonata's lyrics "great" unless you mean it in the sense that theres definitely translation issues and the phrasing is so awkward you have to laugh. haven't heard their new cd yet but I can't wait to see them live again in September, they put on an amazing show
