Song of the day.

Boner......RISING!

If it's as good as the first few tracks on Cryptic Writings I'll love it. Really looking forward to this.

It isn't as good as Youthanasia either. I didn't forget it, I just didn't feel like mentioning I like it more than Countdown To Extinction. I have an easier time listening to it all the way through.

Granted, I alluded to Foreclosure of A Dream earlier as being the last truly great Megadeth song but the way that album ends (it starts to go totally downhill with High Speed Dirt), along with Sweating Bullets, just rubs me the wrong way.

Oh fuck, it is miles ahead of Youthanasia. But shit, I think Cryptic Writings is better than Youthanasia. Tracks like Train of Consequences, A Tout le Monde, Elysian Fields (ugh!), Killing Road, Blood of Heroes and Youthanasia were just horrible IMO. The rest, however, were great. Typical Megadeth: hit or miss - except there were too many misses on Youthanasia.

Geez, I'm just grateful that this is better than anything they've done in 10 years!

I prefer when Megadeth play tight frenzied rhythms, with the basslines galloping away with the 'click' drums (a la Nick Menza). The first four tracks on the new album simply blow me away, especially "Kick the Chair". Those four tracks alone are worth the price of admission.

Haha, I thought you loved Youthanasia and here you go naming half the tracks on it as shite, which is exactly why I don't like it! :loco:

I want this newformed Deth, but I'll wait for September. Even if I downloaded the whole CD I probably wouldn't get around to listening to it until November anyhow.

Oddly enough, I always thought the opposite and found Youthanasia to be absurdly front-loaded, the last three songs on there are crapola. And the closing track on Countdown kills...

...even when we find a band most of us can agree on, there's little or no agreement per individual songs and/or albums. :)

I'm not a fan of Megadeth, but Youthanasia was one of the few I actually liked. "Reckoning Day", "Train of Consequences", "Addicted to Chaos", "Victory" were all good songs. I guess I don't see the problem with "Blood of Heroes".

SOme songs on COuntdown (especially the title track) were good. I think I liked one or two songs on CW. Risk...barf.

Never saw the big shit with Peace Sells, So Far.., RIP. Haven't heard Killing...

My favorite Megadeth "album" was actually Hidden Treasures, as it had Diadems, my fave track from them.

Killing you may like, even though you don't care for their thrash period. Killing is just so wacko you may find enjoyment with it.

I loved Countdown way back when, but that one has not aged gracefully at all like RIP, Peace Sells, and Killing.

Heh, well, it's not like I would remove Youthanasia from my collection or anything. The stuff that works is phenomenal: Reckoning Day, Addicted to Chaos, Family Tree, etc. But it was the beginning of the dumbed down period, that led to Cryptic Writings.

CW is great for what it is. Good catchy songs that work well in a live environment especially when interspersed with the older material. There is nothing more satisfying than seeing Megadeth go from "Wake up Dead" to "She Wolf" to "Hangar 18".

Youthanasia material does not work well live at all. And neither is it a really strong studio album, which makes it pretty weak overall when comparing to other 'Deth releases.

Reckoning Day and the title track make Youthanasia worth keeping. Even Cryptic Writing's crappy songs aren't Megadeth crappy, if that makes sense.

Hey which one ended with that retrospective song, the one with lyrics from 40 other Megadeth songs, was that Youthanasia? Wow that sucked. :tickled:

I'm not saying I illegally downloaded the new Megadeth, but I will say I'm listening to it.

"[When] there's a new [Megadeth], I'll be the first in line."

Wow.

*cue best Megadeth riff since RiP*

"This is breaking news. It appears that Air Force One was shot down somewhere over the Middle East this morning by a sleeper cell of rogue terrorists, firing a Stinger Missile. The pilot and all passengers are unaccounted for. The President's whereabouts are presently unknown and he is presumed missing. The Vice President, Secretary of the State, and principals of the military are assembling - our nation stands at Defcon 3"...

..."Nuclear battlefields, energized. Cold wars are heating up again."

*fall into riff and lead frenzy exchange between Mustaine and Poland not heard since "Wake Up Dead"*

Welcome home, Megadeth. :heh:
:kickass: :kickass: :kickass:

If I would've gotten a Megadeth tattoo back in '92, right about now is when I'd regret getting it removed in '99.

Alright, enough with the vague crap. :loco: This new shit seriously kicks ass. It sounds like what might happen if 'Deth released an album between Countdown and RIP. It's not an all out guitar extravaganza like RIP, but it's not nearly as commercial sounding as Countdown.

Oh I know, this is like the direction Mustaine should've stayed in with Angry Again. This is proper Megadeth, and for the first time in awhile, it's great.

The thing that's fucked up is that I keep playing it over and over because I'm still somewhat in disbelief.

Is it true that Nick Menza is back in the band then? He's perfect for this material.

Blackmail The Universe
Kick The Chair
Tears In A Vial
Back in The Day
Truth Be Told

These are the songs I like. The rest I could take or leave...Nothing outright awful, but kinda boring at the same time.

Wow - 'take or leave'? You're a hard man to please! Six months ago, people still thought that Megadeth were gone forever and that Mustaine's arm was fucked for good. And now they come back with a new album that, in itself is incredible, and, at minimum, surpasses Cryptic Writings. Sheeyat, right now, it might as well be 1990 all over again IMO. :loco:
