Song of the day.

Seriously the album is nothing like RIP . It's a mix beetween Countdown and TWNAH from what I've heard (5 songs) , it's not 'attractive' compared to countdown or CW

** Stop your grinnin' and drop your linen ! ***

The System has Failed is a brilliant album. This is Megadeth back to their old roots. Fuck all the gay boy lyrics of their past couple of albums, this album is on a definite par with Rust In Peace.

The whole album is tight (like you'll mumma's pussies used to be) and it rockets through with tremendous energy. The first five tracks just blow you away like a penthouse house doll gobbling your giblets.

This is Megadeth coming home to claim their thorned crown - at last a fucking decent metal album that truly comes from the pits of hell.

With the dust settled somewhat on the excitement, this is how I would rank it amongst other 'Deth albums:

1. Rust in Peace
2. So Far So Good So What
3. Peace Sells...But Who's Buying
4. Countdown to Extinction
5. The System Has Failed
6. Cryptic Writings
7. Killing is my Business
8. Youthanasia
9000. Risk
9001. The World needs a Hero

Bear in mind though that I'm a huge 'Deth fan, and other than Risk or TWnaH, I have no real problems with #2-#8, and I can mix them up depending on the mood. So for the new one to go in at #5 is a complete return to form in reference to the 'post RiP pre-Risk' days.

#1 of course is etched in stone.

1. Rust In Peace
2. Peace Sells...But Who's Buying?
3. Youthanasia
4. Countdown To Extinction
5. Killing Is My Business...And Business Is Good!
6. So Far, So Good...So What
7. The System Has Failed
8-10.

1. Rust in Peace
1.000000001. Peace Sells
2. Countdown to Extinction
2. Cryptic Writings
2. Killing is my Business
12. Youthanasia
29. So Far So Good So What
4,097. The World Needs a Hero
13,462. Risk

New one (what I've heard) is somewhere around #2 thusfar.

hm, seems my on-topic post will be rather off topic :p

anyhow, song of the day: "fission - crater" it's a sample from vintersorg's (progressive) melodic thrash project, sounds really promising
on a side note i've just realized that i've a really weak spot for mr V's singing, both clear and growl, which probably means that i'll get his latest album sometime in the near future despite my initial dislike :D

1:15 m

That's how long it took for me to *almost* turn that shit off...and then his clean vocals kicked in. I'm a big fan of Vintersorg's clean vox, so those choruses are nice, otherwise it sounds like every other melo-death promo I have delivered to my doorstep daily. That man sounds very uninspired these days.

Oh goody, I want to hear some melodeath and get angry! Let me turn off sweet sweet Kyuss first.

...

...

Real original. Pre-chorus is okay. Chorus just ended. ALT-F4. :puke:

Is Vintersorg normally boring melodic death? I've heard high praise for him/them/whatever in the past, but if that's a typical example I'll never bother.

No - this is a one off. He started off with the whole Nordic epic viking thing, later becoming prog/astral/let's give Steve DiGirogio a paycheck, and then he has his side folk band called Otyg, which many consider to be a joke although I've never heard it, and then of course there is Borknagar.

Why he chose to do a melo-death album is beyond me. He should do a heavy metal album with all clean vocals. That's his strongest feature. I'll be the first in line for that.

Melodic death bands should be like Hypocrisy and Edge of Sanity. Yes it's melodic, yes it's death. Bah, dead horse. :loco:

Song of the day: Meshuggah - Future Breed Machine

New Megadeth still kicks ass. :kickass: :kickass: :kickass:

Otyg is by no means a joke. Yes its happy and fun sounding, yet it still rules at the same time. If you liked Vintersorg's first few albums you'll like Otyg and I suggest picking up Alvefard regardless.

I also can't say enough about how great Empiricism was for me and I'm dying to hear Epic. Yes Vortex is an incredible vocalist but I'd take Empiricism over both The Archaic Course and Quintessence anyday.

Then we have his main band Vintersorg. :worship: Even if most people don't seem to like the material he has been putting out lately, I find it quite good. In fact, The Focusing Blur is in the running for number one of the year. Most are fans of his earlier folk stuff, if you've never heard it you must immediately buy Odemarkens Son, incredible record.

Outside of Opeth, Vintersorg is as close as I get to being a fanboy and therefore I'll undoubtedly buy this album. Vintersorg's clean vocals>everyone elses clean vocals. And I almost forgot. He is also in Havayoth, but unfortunately I haven't got to hear it. That record seems kind of hard to track down.

vintersorg - hedniskhjärtad and till fjälls
otyg - the demos and älvefärd

some of my favourite music.

and vintersorgs later stuff is not bad (haven't heard focusing blur though), quite different, but not bad

Otyg predates the whole astral cosmic pi math metal thing... Actually the reason that he isn't with Otyg anymore was because he lost interest in the whole folk thing. Otyg may sound like a joke for those to whom it sounds all exotic and strange, to me (and other Swedes) it sounds like folk music blended with metal. Big deal.

I could not agree more. I thought this the first time I heard Empiricism anyway. Epic is a slight step down, however.

He's certainly in my top 3.

Yup. Will I like Otyg?
