Atmospheric Black Metal usually. The feeling is just perfect, especially with stuff like Burzum. The tortured vocals, the feeling of ice and cold, everything just perfectly fits the mood for depression. With winter coming I think I'll be needing some more of this stuff, actually.

I really enjoy the Explosions in the Sky album The Earth Is Not a Cold Dead Place when I'm in a shitty mood.

Perfect album.

That's the only one I have by them, and while I enjoy it, a couple of the songs are too bland and too formulatic. Is anything else by them any good? Do they move in a more ambient/experimental or more rock direction on the others?

I don't get depressed but if I did I would just listen to what I usually do - lots and lots of extreme metal. I think it's generally pretty cathartic. Usually listening to some death metal followed by some really cheesy power metal has me feeling great no matter what mood I was in to start with.

Exellent song, but my favorite of the album is "Obscene", with that insane percussion. Probably my favorite record, ever.
