This makes two albums now where i've used Decapitator on the drum bus as an 'effect', and immediately as soon as I bypass it, the song appears to thin out.

This thing has an amazing way of adding density to drums... and this is me, my drums are already distorted/parallel comped and limited to hell with outboard.

Love this plug. Featured heavily on the lead vox on the upcoming Orpheus album too, which I thought it did really well on.

I'm using it to add mid-dirt on bass..usually I used to have a second track HP/LP'd that I distorted, with decaptator I just use the built in HP/LP and the "mix" knob to achieve the same on the original bas track.
I'm also using it on vox, but it's very easy to overdo it...when you hear the effect chances are it's too much already

Interesting.. must try that later.
Right now im using it for bass but only drive it up to around the area before the red. but good idea to driver it harder and use the mix knob.

Also it gets used a Vocals.. but still trying not to over do it hehe.

Will try later on drums aswell.. did that one time and dident like that much.. but have to try it some more.

Try the Neve style distortion on drums. It will fatten out the lows and low-mids, but naturally you will also lose clarity. Of course use it in parallel with the mix knob, I wouldn't suggest going full wet unless you're after an effect.

Nope.

For me it works well on Vox, Drums and Synths. Haven't really thought to try it on bass grit, since it's a mic preamp/tape deck input distortion emulation. Bass isn't really something I'd be hitting with preamp distortion, but rather relying on the pedals/amps to do it.

So, Where do I insert my micropenis? Floppy disk and Usb slots are too big for my 0,05 inches and I'm not getting full satisfaction :D
I'm gonna try it :danceboy:

it's the icing on the cake for me when it comes to vocals. Not just metal vocals, i've used on clean singing, hip hop tracks. it's magic.

Like others have said it's pretty much great on everything else too when used the right way.

I also use this plug on drums. You should also try the SPL twin tube. It`s really good to fatten thin snares. And you can also brighten things up with the Harmonics Knob.

I am also experimenting with another kind of distortion on drums: i send kick and snare (some times toms) to a bus and insert a TS808 or another tube screamer simulation plug and drive the mother f++cker up! then i gently make it sit on the mix. I found it is really good for that new metal snares with those nasty harmonics jumping al over the place.
Anyway, i am just experimenting so maybe some day i post back and say that this technique ruins everything! jajajaj but well, that`s the beauty of experimenting. You should try it and comment back!

it's old plugin, not bad. first impression for digital daw guys must be amazing to hear distortion like this. maybe plugin of the week here.

OMG, I am a digital daw guy and I am amazed to hear distortion like this, even for such an ancient plugin. I nominate it for POT (plugin of the year)
