South Korea Vs. North Korea

Well actually it's more complicated than it seems. I don't want to be the "USA did it" guy but USA and Soviet Union were countries who divide the Korea in the first place.

It boggles my mind that no American has gotten angry enough to just assassinate her. It should have happened by now.

Nothing's gonna happen.

NK is just trying to get some petrol. Not long ago, the USA told NK to stop trying to develop nuclear energy. NK said no but now it seems they really can't so, they're trying some blackmail to get that petrol offer again.

No way in hell that the USA can afford another war. As soon as US troops leave Iraq or Afghanistan shit will hit the fan.

We literally can't afford any of the wars we're currently in, or our permanent troop presence in over 150 countries worldwide... There's a reason our country has nearly $14 trillon in debt, and these "necessary" endless "defense" expenditures are a significant part of it. Sadly, it is also a non-issue according to Republicans and Democrats (our "one party" system), as it is never even so much as mentioned by either party, or by the media  The general American populace needs to wake up...

This is very true. The American populace seems to be totally unaware of defense spending or large parts of foreign policy.

It also gets my goat that whenever defense cuts happen it is reducing the number of soldiers or the proposed pay freezes for soldiers or the proposed "reform" of VA benefits. Yet huge amounts of money are spent on expensive weapons programs that are never used.

Like that new fancy fighter jet that costs a crap load but has not killed one enemy in either of the wars the united states is currently in. Yet I was blaring down the road into Ramadi in a truck with canvas doors on it. Makes perfect sense.

What needs to happen is some of this defense spending needs to redirected to research and development of things like genetic engineering, stem cell research, 4th generation nuclear power etc. The kind of things I believe can pick up the economy.

As for the South Koreans their military is already built up to enormous proportions. They are way more ready to protect themselves against the North than they were 50 years ago.
