Also, a gauntlet is a protective glove that extends above the wrist.

That's nice, but they're called gauntlets. Popular usage and whatever, and I used to wear them so I'd know. It's like the word triplets in guitar terms. It doesn't mean what everyone thinks it means, but it's in such massive common usage that pointing it out just makes you look like a pretentious ass.

triplets in guitar terms often means galloping and such (a la jon schaffer)...er I think that's what it means...

I'll just stick with the literal definition of triplets

Main Entry: gaunt·let
Pronunciation: 'gont-l&t, 'gänt-

Etymology: Middle English, from Middle French gantelet, diminutive of gant glove, of Germanic origin; akin to Middle Dutch want glove, Old Norse vottr
1 : a glove worn with medieval armor to protect the hand
2 : any of various protective gloves used especially in industry
3 : an open challenge (as to combat) -- used in phrases like throw down the gauntlet
4 : a dress glove extending above the wrist
- gaunt·let·ed /-l&-t&d/ adjective

Nowhere does it say "armband". It's not "common usage". I've never heard anyone (with the exception of Dimmu Borgir worshipping teenagers) refer to it as such. If you wish to bastardize the English language further, I suggest you study up on ebonics or spanglish.

gauntlet = glove
vambrace/bracer = armor for the forearm

Yeah...costume accessories.

Not to sound like a been-there-done-that elitist, but you know fuck about the underground. I've never heard anyone not call them gauntlets. Every site I've ever seen them sold on (at least a few years ago, don't know about now) refers to them as "spiked gauntlets". And every grim BM freak I've ever known calls them "gauntlets". But you go right ahead, next time you're at a show and you see some kvlt band in corpsepaint coming off stage, tell 'em you like their "vambraces". And... get laughed at.

(BTW, the fact that you'd quote the dictionary as an argument really makes you look like a pretentious ass.)

Yeah, common useage.:Spin:

From now on, instead of saying taint, I'll begin saying The Grimage. As in, "Today I woke up and had to scratch The Grimace". Hopefully others will follow, and using "The Grimace" to refer to the area below a person's nutsack will become "common usage", and I can use this to argue like a retard on message boards, just like you.

Also, you can call me a "pretentious ass" all you like. It won't change the fact that I'm correct, and you're just a dumb, stupid fuck.
