Sponsor Meet Up

I have a very unique sponsorship formula. Every year, anyone is invited to submit a list of bands they would be willing to sponsor in order of preference along with a "bid" amount (I indicated the minimum ever year). The highest bidder wins the sponsorship. However, you may end up sponsoring a band lower on your priority list for less than someone else that is sponsoring the #1 band you wanted. I match up things with my needs and guaranteed absolutely nothing. It really does go along way in determing who I make an offer to. Sponsors have no idea if they are indeed sponsors until I go public with the roster.

Without the sponsors, there are plenty of bands that would not be/have made the trip.

I think that this is a great formula that Glenn has come up with, as it gives him the latitude to make offers to some bands that might not otherwise get the chance to play ProgPowerUSA. Plus it gives us the fans a chance if only for a weekend to be a intergral part of ProgPower, and yes it does come at a price, but one I am thankful to say i am willing to pay, and will continue to pay every year for now on if i am choosen as a sponsor.

Just out of curiosity, what is the dollar range for sponsorship per band, on average?

Maybe I shouldn't go here, but do the sponsors get any reimbursement in the event the Fest returns a profit? (Which I assume it must considering it sells out most years right?)

Minimum sponsorship is $1000. I don't know the average.

Sponsors do not get reimbursed.

Dave,

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this isn't the first time that you have brought up your unhappiness with the gold badges in this forum instead of emailing me. Why not buy regular tickets instead of griping about spending the additional $10 (after ticketmaster charges) that the public spends on regular tickets. I tire of hearing complaints as the gold badge is optional, not mandatory.

If you are unhappy with getting exclusive shopping privledges in the vendors room before doors open (and being able to run it back to your hotel), don't like getting in to the actual venue before the general public is allowed in, the raffle held on Saturday, or getting into the pre-party first to mix with the bands, or the private gold badge bar on Thursday night...then for god's sake...don't spend the extra $10 and let someone else have your badge.

If you have never brought this topic up, then I apolgize profusely.

Minimum sponsorship two years ago was $500. Last year it was $1,000. The reason it was increased was because I would be an idiot not to as my expenses increase every year and the demand for VIP badges is greater than ever, even at the increased minimum. As I have said in the past, this is an elite festival with an elite audience. That is what makes this festival different from all others in terms of atmosphere & setting.

As for sponsorship, there is no reimbursement. This festival is no longer just a hobby for me, but a business that I take very seriously. The festival does indeed turn a profit now and I hope to increase that each year if at all possible (which it does not as it fluctuates). The day I lose money again is the day I quit doing the festival. I work my ass off for an entire year and make no apologies for wanting to make as much profit as possible, especially after losing 20 grand back at PP II.

I hope that clears things up.

Glenn, yes it does.
I wasn't being judgemental. I was simply curious as to the process.
No one ever needs to apologize for making a dollar, esp when so much of time and energy goes into it.

Those who attend should be grateful of others that front their own cash to help bring these bands.

Me personally, I am not in the financial position to provide such a sponsorship. Therefore, I respect and appreciate those that do.

All of us at BeyondEarCandy feel the sponsorship program set up by Glenn is exceptional. We contribute because we are interested in promoting not only the the bands we feel deserve this opportunity, but also we want to support a festival that promotes the music that we love. It is not just a ticket to an event, but an opportunity to contribute to the growth of this genre and we're pleased that Glenn has allowed us this opportunity. 'nuf said.

I have to totally agree with this, as i have said in the past this is my first year of sponsorship, and not my last(I hope). In the past i knew nothing of sponsorships or how to get them, i saw all the people with the statement "Proud Sponsor of __________ for PP___" and i wondered how they got them. Now that i know, well you know the deal. And yes as AMBR said it is for the promotion of the music and the festival, and we get no reimbusement, and that is totally okay. Will i do it again next year??? HELL YES I WILL, and the years following, hopefully next year i will be living in Atlanta, and the trip to ProgPower will be easier, but even if i am delayed in getting there I will still make the trip NO MATTER WHO IS PLAYING!!!!

I don't want to speak for Sean on this one, but I am afraid I think it is necessary.....

Sean is about the coolest guy I have ever met at Prog Power. He wants to meet the other sponsors simply so he can get to know them ahead of time so he will be familiar with who he will be hanging out with while he is in the VIP booth during the show. Sean is not in the VIP booth during the whole show. He is a "regular guy" just like most of us and spends lots of time on the floor. This is not about a social class nor money.

I think this is a question for Shane(Beholder) Do the sponsors get into the preparty as the Gold Badge people or do we wait like the the rest. Either way is no problem, i just want to get in to see Circus Maximus and hang out with all you cool people. I have a lott of beers to buy for people, I just can't wait.

Well, I believe last year we had two options to get the badges. I THINK we could show up around 4:00 (?) at the venue and get them from Glenn at the same time as people getting their gold badges so we could get in the gold badge room at the pre-party.

Option 2 is usually to meet Glenn at I think 11:00 on Friday by the venue parking garage and he hands them out and lays down the rules and such. You really have to be there for the "sponsor tour" if you never have done it. A lot is explained then.

It is VERY important that sponsors follow ALL of Glenn's rules to avoid having privileges taken away in the future. Remember, no matter how much money you contributed, if you don't follow the rules, you will lose your VIP badge.

I really hope as the sponsorship group grows or changes over the year, people will remember that! Absolutely key thing to remember is the sponsor privileges are yours alone. You cannot "share" anything in anyway with anyone else. There are places you can go and very few you cannot, but you must respect and stay OUT of where you don't belong

And above all, keep your behavior high level and respectful at all times. Sounds like I'm preaching, but Glenn will tell you the same thing, he does every year to EVERY one, not just noobs, :). It's so very important that everyone follows the rules so as not to spoil this excellent and very generous program.
