Hmm, I wouldn't bet on it dude, the EC-1000 is all mahogany and I think that'd be mud-city - worth a try though, but I think you'd have better luck trying the 18-volt mod on the 81 in the bridge!
raising emgs really helps tighten the sound up. I had mine lower too, when I raised it, sounded much tighter. I`m using an 81 though... now I want to try the 85! Ive heard adam d favors them as well.
Eh, I'm still not sure about the 85, I posted some clips here that I like but are a bit nasally sounding to my ears, and it seems like it's coming from either the pickup or guitar (since it has so much maple, it even sounds a bit peaky around 2k when unplugged). I'll swap them around and try the 81 AGAIN (but at least it'll be at a good height) - ah, it never ends!
