Ive been quite interested in getting the new metal foundry expansion for superior drummer, but from reading the thread about it most people say that the kicks still arent clicky enough and the snares are nothing special, but watching the video for bleed on the toontrack site i was blown away.

My other option is the steve slate pack, im really tempted by this!
can people give me pro's and cons for each? i understand it might be difficult given the superior pack hasnt been released yet. Which one should i go for!!

sounds AWESOME. But isn't that cutting corners a bit? :-p i'd feel guilty haha...are the kicks good?

I think the Slate are awesome, but also really like the Toontrack stuff. That's not very helpful in making a decision I guess...but really you can't go too wrong. Are you using them for replacement or programming from scratch?

See there are a few things in superior 2.0 i just cant get right plus im not really a fan of their kicks for metal..so im thinking the foundry might be an opportunity for something new? programming from scratch

get slate - from the demos ive compared both ssd and superior and slate totally kills superior!!

Also - slates samples dont need any or very lilttle processing.

why waste time fiddling endlessly with superior when slates samps are ready to go - gives you more time for getting good GTR takes!!!

Superior + Foundry.

You guys can't be serious about Slate > Superior 2... Slate's cymbals do not come close to even touching Toontrack's. We (I) proved that in Shane's 'Arrival' thread.

Sorry Steven - I love your drum samples... but SSD3 leaves MUCH to be desired.

well, my vote goes to SSD3.0.

while i've never owned superior, i used to use addictive drums, and coming from that i just can't see why anyone would call SSD3.0 "lacking". the kick/snare/etc samples are obviously of VERY high quality (and yes, they're already quite processed, so basically all you have to do is choose the right samples and do some minor tweaks to fit them into your mix), but i was almost shocked to see how good the cymbals are on SSD in contrast to AD! and what's even better, there will be another huge improvement as far as cymbals go with the 3.5 upgrade...can't wait :)

HOWEVER.....and that's a biggie for me....native instruments SUCKS BALLS IN HELL!!!
you know, SSD3.0 is an awesome piece of gear, but with the kontakt 2 player you're fucked, because NI support is NON-EXISTANT.
a shame, as steven himself really cares for his customers....unfortunately the native instruments crew does absolutely NOT.

so do SSD have an interface like superior for setting the levels and stuff for your drums or are they just samples that you can only use for replacement in like drumagog or something?

Nope, SSD now has a Standalone player where I'm pretty sure you can set the levels (if not in the player, then you can use multi out to have each drum/cymbal on a track in your DAW so you can adjust/automate the faders there)

Not a dedicated program like Toontrack, but a kontakt 2 player, and according to Fragle:

I know what I'd choose. Presets and "modelling" of productions will exist in the Foundry too, but you can turn it off, and tweak it as much/little as you want. Steven knows what he's doing, but so do Daniel Bergstrand, Fredrik Thordendal, Peter Gunnerfeldt and the guys at Tonteknik too. ;)

Just my €0.02.

How about sample diversity? I've always wondered how "multi" are Stale's multi-samples, because SD 2.1 has a LOT of samples per velocity and a lot of velocity layers.

Slate > Superior 2, and I am VERY serious. The kicks in Toontracks products don't come close to Stevens. And if you don't like the cymbols in 3.0, EQ them to taste, not to mention 3.5 will be updating the symbols and adding new ones. Free update too! :)

...and I own EZDrummer + DFH, Addictive Drums, Superior 2.0 and SSD.

The worse thing with Superior is that you always need to replace the kick because it sounds really bad. In SSD 3.0, I open a preset, tweak a bit and I'm all set. Maybe Metal foundry kicks will be better, but still, if you don't want to pass a lot of time tweaking, SSD is the way to go.

Do bear in mind that even though Slate has 40 kits, they're not 40 individual kits. Some of the kits are the same kits, just with different kinds of processing. I wouldn't go for them on a quantity basis. Also, his current crop uses Kontakt, which AFAIK doesn't support disk-streaming... so you're going to be raping your RAM.

I'm not bashing them though, they sounded pretty decent. I personally prefer other stuff though. Checkout the demos for the Evil Joe Baressi BFD2 expansion pack, at: www.platinumsamples.com

I use a combination of BFD2, and a whole host of expansion packs for it. I've always wondered why it doesn't get talked about more around here; I guess it comes down to the fact that BFD2 stuff is raw, and you have to process it yourself, whereas a lot of the other products aren't raw.

I use BFD2 with Toontrack Superior 2 also; and yes... the kicks suck. But checkout the videos on the Steven Slate website too.... those kicks aren't that dynamic sounding... and to me, that is a fail.

He was talking about the Metal Foundry though. Since it's not released yet, there's no need to bash it, since Loco also seems to have Superior 2.0 already...

Same thing as I'm not impressed by the first batch of the Slate cymbals (no bashing, just my opinion). I can't say that the 3.5 is bad because of that, huh?
