SSD or joey sturgis samples?

i think people just go YEAH, like that sound! do that! And when it's been done so much it's easy to go to and expect. I think with our album, only the drums will be I guess, to some degree treated in the 'norm' sample replacing some shit etc. The guitars are blackouts not emg, mesa mark iv not 5150 etc... i still think there's a lot to be said about breaking from the norm every so often. It's simple that these methods are tried and true, and really, you can't fuck it up going down the safe route etc, but yep! It does get boring. Meh!

PS. The ballclap sample is epic! I'm going to try slot it in somewhere for a band im mixing soon :p

eh its the times guys. look at the 80s. It was hard to find a hard rock band (or any band for that matter) that wasnt using gated reverb all over the place. That eventually faded away and now its "dated". Also, most of the producers in the 80s were only using a handful of drum machines with the same samples on them.... and a handful of synthesizers. It was the technology. now this is the technology. Times will change again.

Yep, every band seems to be:

EMG fitted mahogany guitar>tubescreamer>5150>rectifier cab>SM57 for guitars

Slate drum samples for the drums.

So basically all we've got left to give a band some sense of individuality is bass, vocals and cymbals.

Precisely. I use a fucking Custom build Carvin DC747 (All Koa body), and I think it sounds 10X better than my ESP that has the mohogany+EMG combo. EMGs end up sounding too 'plasticy' to me for some odd reason.

I hear you, NS.

I've been rocking my stock Ibanez p'ups for like 6 or 7 years now. Never knew what it was like to play thru different p'ups. Till a few weeks ago.....Fender Custom Shop beauuutiful guitar with EMG 81 (i think) in the bridge. man did it sound nice, but it lost all the low end chunkiness that the passives had.
