SSD4 Routing in REAPER

I'm sure this has been touched on a bunch of times.

I just can NOT, for the life of me, get this to work.

I have SSD4 "Essentials". For starters, the layout of the internal mixer is just .... odd. Anyway, I'm sure there is something simple I'm missing here.

I have SSD on Track 1. I want to send the shells/cymbals/OH/rooms to their own tracks.

I'm clicking the "Out 1 st" at the bottom of each channel and changing it to the track that I want to route it to. And in REAPER, creating blank tracks to route these drums to. I have SSD4 set to send to, say, track 2 (kick)..... But it just routes the entire kit to the specified channel. I thought I had this figured out before, but now I'm lost.

Any pointers?

Ahh!! That's right! I wasn't physically inserting the VSTi on new track from the start. I was CTRL+T, then applying it as an FX....then trying to manually route from there.

Just the layout of the mixer in SSD4 and the lack of ability to move tracks around irks me. Just seems jumbled.
