SSSSYYYYDDDDNEEEEYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!

 Good call!

Anyway, winners are grinners, so you can grin a lot this week! What happened with the Bulldogs this year though? It's hard to keep up with it from here.

They fell in a heap. I kept making the excuse that most of their players were out (which is true. Half the regular first grade side was out at one point), but even after they came back they still couldn't beat a baby's arse with a paddle. Useless.

Don't forget they were missing Steve Price. I don't know if he made much of a difference, but if they were dodgy this year because he was gone, then gee... that says something about the influence the bloke had on the Dogs.

I think maybe they got through last year largely on emotion after all the controversy, and just suffered a huge hangover this year. They were never (IMO) all that dominant last year, they just won enough games and managed to come out on top in a very scrappy grand final to win.

I think they also suffered a huge blow when El Masri got injured. Despite all the praise and controversy around blokes like Anasta, Mason, Williams and the rest, Hazim has been the Bulldogs' most consistently good player for years. It's a shame he hasn't got the skills to be a pivot, or he'd be sensational.

I think he should be moved to centre, get him a bit closer to the action at least.

Says the guy who knows nothing really about positional play. :)

The dogs were terrible for most of the year. They're side late in the year was, as GR noted, was full of reserve graders. As competitive as this years comp is, it's sad to know that going into the last three rounds the bulldogs, roosters, and panthers all could still make the finals (or something like that)... None of them had showed any decent form consistently........ I couldn't believe it when the roosters still could make it!

I dont' follow AFL, but I gotta say that Hall punch was nothing.... I reckon they risk ending up like soccer if people start taking dives like that.... Not saying it wasn't a punch, but he doubled over like he'd been hit by a car!

Yep, shouldn't matter if it's a grand final or not - if you're a clean player then you wouldn't have anything to worry about. I don't know this Barry Hall joker from a bar of soap but he certainly looks like a thug from the footage I've seen on the news.

I'm thinking of watching the grand final this weekend. It will (hopefully) be the first AFL game I've watched in its entirety. Question is, who should I go for? Please advise.

Overacted? You try getting punched by Barry Hall when you're not ready for it. If you're not prepared to take a blow it can affect you a lot more than when you're able to brace yourself. Maguire is one of St Kilda's toughest players; I can't see him ever putting it on.

It was downgraded because it was deemed to be "in play", or something to that effect. Nice to know that you can punch someone 50m from play and still have it deemed to be part of play!

Ah, so he had to punch him to get around him! Even though Maguire was just walking in the opposite direction. It's a farce!

The argument was that since he was making a "movement" towards the ball (ie turning around), the hit was in play.

Yeah I think it sucks to get through on legal mumbo-jumbo..... but I don't think he should have been cited in the first place so I'm not the best judge! :D

Well I'm glad Hall's playing because that's going to make everyone hate Sydney more, so when we win, it will be even more glorious. Gaspar got off as well, and what he did was worse than Hall's punch, so it's all good. Maybe they can get in a fight on Saturday!

Spiff: El Masri's too small to play centre. I'm guessing that's the main reason he plays wing.

C'arn the mighty Eagles!!!!!! :D

I've got to find somewhere over here that's showing it live as it's a lot more fun than just watching the score update online. I know of two Aussie bars/cafe places and then there is the Embassy... one of them must be showing it. Gotta call around and find out.

off play or on play seems kinda dodgy to me, but I don't know the exact rules.. But isn't it like John Hopoate going "I hit the dude in play, so it should be downgraded?" Same with Danny Williams or Carl Webb!
