hi,

i am pretty much a new guy in the world of recording and i found this forum very helpful for extending my knowledge, thank you for that! Allot of times i read the same tips that are not totally clear to me, maybe you guys can help.

"compress heavily" does this mean high ratios, low threshold, fast attack/release or an combination of the 3?

"look for mud in the xx hz area (guitars)" are these the frequenties that clear up your whole mix when subdoing or are these the frequenties that you dont like in the tone while soloing? i think actually my question is do you spot them soloing or with the whole mix. i use sweep and eq to identify these area's is this bad practice?

thanks in advanced

"Compressing Heavily" is referring to the amount of gain reduction happening.

Your other question have been brought up many times on this forum. No rules here but basic practice is to only solo when you need to. (example. sweeping in search for harsh/bad frequencies). Remember you are creating a "Mix" not a solo guitar sound.
Hope this helps.
